Press Release from Block Development Office Passingdang, Dzongu
Information & Public Relations Department
BAC Passingdang, March 20: In a progressive stride towards sustainability and rural empowerment, the Block Administrative Centre (BAC), Passingdang/Dzongu, in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Mangan, has embarked on an innovative low-cost oyster mushroom cultivation initiative. This endeavor aligns with the vision of the Honourable Chief Minister of Sikkim, Shri Prem Singh Tamang (Golay), to transform underutilized government spaces into productive hubs while furthering the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2030.
The launch event witnessed the presence of the Block Development Officer (BDO), Passingdang, alongside Shri Bhison Pradhan, Senior Scientist-cum-Head, KVK Mangan; Ms. Rinchen Denzongpa, Subject Matter Specialist, Horticulture Department, Mangan; Mr. Tshering P. Bhutia (SMS), Soil Science, Mangan; Mr Norden Lepcha, Field Expert, Mangan; and the dedicated staff of BAC Passingdang. The resource persons from the KVK Mangan spent whole day in providing hands on training, technical knowledge and construction of poly hut.
This initiative aspires to serve as a beacon of inspiration for the local community by demonstrating the potential of low-cost, sustainable agricultural practices. By harnessing the simplicity and efficiency of oyster mushroom cultivation, the project aims to create alternative livelihood opportunities, promote self-reliance, and encourage optimal utilization of natural resources. Additionally, as the Block Development Office is a pivotal center frequented by locals, the cultivation unit will act as a living laboratory-an accessible, hands-on learning space where community members can observe, engage, and replicate the practice for their own economic benefit.
Beyond this endeavor, BAC Passingdang remains steadfast in its commitment to holistic rural development. Several pioneering initiatives are in the pipeline, each designed to uplift the local populace and drive sustainable progress. Through such efforts, BAC Passingdang continues to foster an ecosystem of innovation, resilience, and collective growth.
