Meeting of DEO and EROs with Political Parties, Soreng District
Soreng, March 21: In accordance to the directive of the Election Commission of India (ECI) a monthly meeting of the DEO( District Election Officer), Electoral Registration Officers(EROs) and with the political party representatives were held in the District Administrative Centre at Soreng on the 20th of March 2025.
The District Election Officer (DEO) and the Electoral Registration Officers (ERO) assigned in the district are as follows :-
District Election Officer (DEO) : Mr Dhiraj Subedi, DC Soreng.
05- Rinchenpong (BL) : Mr Santosh Kr. Allay, ADC II
06- Daramdin (BL) : Mr Prem Kumar Subba, SDM (HQ)
07- Soreng Chakung : Ms Sakchum Lepcha, SDM Soreng
08- Salghari- Zoom (SC) : Mr Daya Ram Bista, ADC
The following points were discussed during the meeting:
• Constitution & Legal Framework.
• Administrative Machinery.
• Role of ERO, AERO & BLOs.
• Eligibility Conditions for Enrolment
• Determination of Citizenship.
• Determination of Ordinary Residence.
• Qualifying Dates.
• Pre-revision Activities.
• Revision Activities.
• Continuous Updation.
• Suo-moto Deletion, Inclusion, Transfer & Correction. (Referring to form 6,7 and 8
• Disposal of Claims & Objection.
• Citizen Centric Services: National Voter Service Portal, National Grievance Service Portal, Voter Helpline App, PWD App.
• Role of Political Parties:
a. Appointment of Booth Level Agents.
b. Free supply of E-Rolls to recognised Political Parties.
• Outreach initiatives:
a. SVEEP (Systematic Voters' Education and Electoral Participation)
b. National Voter's Day.
c. Mobile Van Campaign/Demonstration.
d. PWDs Camp.
e. Electors Literacy Club.
Additionally, the EROs discussed with the political parties about the Constitutional Mandates and legal framework of the Election Commission of India . They also noted issues and concerns raised by the political parties to resolve the matter within the constitutional mandate and legal framework of the (ECI).
The DEO/DC intimated that the objective of the meeting would strengthen the electoral process and further urged the gathering to take responsiblity for a collaborative effort. Along with the combined efforts of the political parties with sincere and earnest involvement the issues and challenges faced during the election could be curbed.
The issues and concerns raised by political parties like rationalisation of polling stations, marking of new PWDs voter and corrections in the voter's card were discussed at length and the DEO instructed all EROs to look into the matter earnestly .
Further the DEO requested to submit the names of Booth Level Agents (BLAs ) so that their appointments can be made immediately.
The Meeting was attended by the representatives of Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) , Citizen Action Party (CAP) Sikkim and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) along with officials from the Election Cell.
