Gangtok District Welcomes New Academic Session 2025 with Enthusiasm as Government Schools Reopen
Gangtok, Sikkim – 3rd February 2025 – After a long 51-day winter vacation, all government schools in Sikkim reopened today, marking the beginning of the new academic session for 2025.
Despite the bone-chilling winter season, students and staff alike returned to their classrooms, bringing fresh energy and enthusiasm to the new academic year.
The government schools under the Gangtok District also resumed operations today, with all staff and students present on the first day. The morning began with the usual assembly, followed by the much-awaited distribution of textbooks, exercise copies, and school uniforms. Students across the district received their materials, ensuring they were well-prepared to start the new session on the right note.
This year, the Education Department took special care to streamline the distribution process, ensuring that all textbooks, copies, and uniforms were made available to students on the opening day itself.
Mr. Tashi Chopel, Secretary, School Education, along with Mr. A.D. Chettri, Additional Director, Samagra Shiksha, visited West Point Senior Secondary School and Modern Senior Secondary School to ensure the textbook and uniforms have reached as per the directions of the government. The effort was coordinated by the District Education Office under the leadership of Mrs. Chime Donka Denjongpa, Chief Education Officer of Gangtok. The District and the Block Officers visited several schools in the district to oversee the distribution and ensure that all resources were provided in a timely and efficient manner.
In his address to students and staff, the Secretary, School Education, emphasized the importance of dedication and hard work in this new academic year. "The reopening of schools signifies a new beginning, full of opportunities for growth, learning, and success," he said. "Let us all embrace this new session with the same enthusiasm and determination that we have shown today. I encourage both students and educators to make the most of this year, to set new goals, and to reach new heights."
The District Education Office, Gangtok, also extended a warm welcome to all staff and students, wishing them a fruitful and successful academic session. The Chief Education Officer, Gangtok in her address said, "As we step into this new year, let us remember that every day is a new chance to learn, to grow, and to contribute positively to our communities". "We look forward to a year filled with hard work, achievement, and progress."
The heads of schools as well as the students expressed their gratitude to the Department and the government for providing the essential items on the first day of the session itself.
The reopening of schools marks a fresh chapter in the educational journey of thousands of students across Gangtok, and with the collective support of teachers, parents, and the community, the district looks forward to a successful and enriching year ahead.
