15-Day long Tourism and Hospitality Event Concludes in Sikkim
Gangtok, January 31:
The 15-day training programme on digital marketing and business management for homestay owners, organized by the Tourism and Civil Aviation Department of Sikkim, in joint collaboration with the Institute of Hotel Management (IHM), Sajong, under the Sikkim Inspires initiative, successfully concluded on Friday, January 31.2025.
The closing ceremony was graced by Prakash Chhetri, Secretary of the Department of Tourism and Civil Aviation, Government of Sikkim, as the chief guest and was attended by Dr.Prerna Chamling, Administrator of IHM cum Additional Secretary of the Tourism and Civil Aviation Department, NT Bhutia, Additional Director, Hospitality and Homestay, Vikash Rai ,Sr.Cha Hospitality, Ms. yamini Pradhan, Deputy Director, Hospitality, of Tourism and Civil Aviation Department,Shri.Karma Changchup Bhutia,Senior lecturer

Throughout the 15 day event, participants engaged in various sessions, workshops, and hands-on training, guided by industry experts that enhanced their digital marketing skills and strengthened their ability to promote their homestays effectively. Addressing the gathering, Secretary Prakash Chhetri emphasized the significance of homestays in promoting the rural economy. He stated that visitors from across the world are drawn to the rural beauty of Sikkim, and homestays not only contribute to economic growth but also facilitate cross-cultural exchange. He encouraged more locals to take up homestay ventures as a means of sustainable tourism development.
The program highlighted the need for continuous learning and skill development, particularly among women and youth, to strengthen the state’s tourism and hospitality sector.
As part of the concluding ceremony, participants' feedback were collected to assess the impact of the event. The resource persons were felicitated for their valuable contributions, and the participants were awarded certificates for their successful completion of the program. The event officially concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Sudhakar Sahoo, Head of Department, IHM Sajong, who expressed gratitude to all the dignitaries, resource persons, and participants for making the initiative a success.
The Sikkim Inspires initiative continues to play a vital role in promoting skill development, gender inclusivity, and excellence in tourism and hospitality across the State.
