16th Annual Convention of Central Information Commission Held in New Delhi
The 16th Annual Convention of the Central Information Commission was held on December 10, 2024, at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. The event was inaugurated by Dr. Jitendra Singh, Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office and Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions.
The Convention had the presence of Chief Information Commissioners and Information Commissioners of Central Information Commission and State Information Commissions and Secretary and Senior Officers from Ministry of Administrative Reforms & Public Grievances and Department of Pensions & Pensioners Welfare , Government of India .
The convention highlighted the pivotal role of the Right to Information (RTI) Act in fostering transparency and accountability.Key Sessions and Discussions:
1. Session I: I)Contribution of RTI in the journey towards Viksit Bharat
ii)Effective Redressal of Public Grievances
2. Session II: Performance of State Information Commissions (SIC) with reference to states of Assam and Maharashtra
The event also included an interactive session and discussions on the RTI Act's effectiveness. The convention emphasized strengthening the implementation of the RTI Act and exploring new strategies for ensuring transparency in governance.
Shri YP Gurung , Chief Information Commissioner and Shri Kuber Bhandari State Information Commissioner attended the Convention from Sikkim.
