Today at Rajbhavan, Hon'ble Governor of Sikkim Mr. Om Prakash Mathur to Chief Information Commissioner of India, Central Information Commissioner, Shri Hiralal Samaria and Chief Information Commissioner of various State Commissioners (CIC) including Shri Tripurari Sharan, CIC Bihar; Shri R Mehboob Basha, CIC Andhra Pradesh; Shri Koijan Radhashyam Singh, CIC Manipur; Mr. Sushant Kumar Mohanty, CIC Odisha; Dr. Pradeep Vyas, CIC Maharashtra; Mr. Vivek Sharma, CIC Uttarakhand; Mr. Y P Gurung, CIC Sikkim; and Mr. Kuber Bhandari, SIC Sikkim and Sikkim State Information Commission Secretary Mrs. Roshani Rai paid courtesy visit.
During this meeting, Chief Information Commissioner Mr. Hiralal Samaria gave detailed information about Right to Information (RTI) and the works of Information Commissioners highlighting the purpose of the meeting. During this time, future plans were also discussed, highlighting RTI's effective implementation and promoting transparency.
In his response the Hon'ble Governor inquired detail about the efforts being raised towards tackling the abuse of RTI. He emphasized that the benefits people are receiving through RTI should be spread to the public to strengthen people's faith in the process.
During the meeting, High Tea was organized by Rajbhavan. On this occasion, the Governor appreciated the works of the Information Commissioners and encouraged them to work similarly dedicated in future.
It is worth noting that NFICI's 31st Board of Governors meeting has been held in Gangtok from December 3 to December 6, 2024 under the supervision of 'Sikkim Information Commission'. This meeting aims to strengthen the Right to Information and review the work of the Information Commission.
Gangtok, December 4: The Chief Information Commissioner of India, Shri Heeralal Samariya a courtesy call on the Hon’ble Governor of Sikkim, Shri Om Prakash Mathur at the Raj Bhavan today.
During the meeting Chief Information Commissioner of India informed that as per the directives of Supreme Court of India, all State Information Commissions (SICs) conducting hybrid mode of hearing to all appellants for hearing complaints and appeals and to make electronic filing efficient and accessible for all litigants.
Hon’ble Governor emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability, highlighting the effective use of the Right to Information (RTI) Act by the public. Additionally, he urged the concerned officials to continue working diligently to ensure that citizens receive accurate and reliable information, thereby strengthening the system further.
The Hon’ble Governor appreciated the State Information Commissioners' efforts and encouraged them to continue working with the same commitment in the future.
The CIC of India, Shri Heeralal stated that RTI applications are usually disposed within the stipulated time.
The Chief Information Commissioner of India, Shri Heeralal was accompanied by Tripurari Sharan, Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) of Bihar; R Mahaboob Basha, CIC of Andhra Pradesh, Koijan Radhashyam Singh, CIC of Manipur, Susanta Kumar Mohanty, CIC of Odisha, Dr Pradeep Vyas, CIC of Maharashtra, Vivek Sharma, CIC of Uttarakhand, Y P Gurung, CIC of Sikkim, Kuber Bhandari, State Information Commissioner of Sikkim and Roshni Rai, Secretary of Sikkim Information Commissioner.
Notably, the Chief Information Commissioner of India and other State Information Commissioners are in state capital Gangtok for 31st Board of Governors Meeting of the National Federation of Information Commissions in India.
