Fisheries Department Kicks Off Fish Festival 2024
Gangtok, 17th November 2024: The Fisheries Department, Government of Sikkim, kick started the much-anticipated Fish Festival 2024 from Hotel Tashi Delek today.
The week-long festival, spanning from 17th to 23rd November 2024, aims to celebrate Sikkim's rich aquaculture heritage by showcasing a variety of fish-based delicacies. Organized in collaboration with nine popular restaurants in Gangtok, the festival seeks to strengthen ties between fish farmers, restaurateurs, and consumers while emphasizing the socio-economic importance of the fisheries sector in the state.
The inaugural ceremony was graced by Shri Puran Kumar Gurung, Hon’ble Minister for Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services, and Fisheries Departments, as the Chief Guest.
The event was attended by Mrs. Roshni Rai, Secretary, Fisheries Department, alongside senior officials from the department, representatives of the collaborating restaurants, and other distinguished guests.
The Hon’ble Minister commended the Fisheries Department for organizing the festival and extended his gratitude to the participating hotels and restaurants for their support. He emphasized the crucial role fisheries play in the socio-economic development of Sikkim, contributing to the livelihood of many families and fostering local entrepreneurship.
The Fish Festival 2024 serves as a platform to showcase the diverse and flavorful fish dishes prepared using locally farmed fish, highlighting Sikkim's growing potential in aquaculture. By fostering partnerships among fish farmers, restaurateurs, and consumers, the festival also aims to create a sustainable and thriving market for fish-based products in the state.
The nine participating restaurants namely Hotel Tashi Delek, The Lazy Chef, OSM, Food Affair, Chopstick, Apna Dhaba, Gangtok Groove, Dragon Wok and Lumsey Inn have curated special menus featuring innovative fish-based dishes, promising an unforgettable culinary experience for locals and tourists alike.
The Fisheries Department invites everyone to be part of this unique celebration, taste the exquisite fish delicacies, and support the local fish farming community.
