PRESS RELEASE FROM SPECIAL OLYMPICS BHARAT- SIKKIM CHAPTER

New Delhi, October 18
Annual General Meeting of Special Olympics Bharat (SOB) was held at New Delhi from 16th to 17th October 2024 at Hotel Lalit, New Delhi.
On behalf of SOB-Sikkim, Dr. R B Biswakarma, Vice President and Ms Kiren Dhakal, Joint Secretary attended the meeting. SOB-Sikkim, under the leadership of Shri Kuber Dahal, President, Sikkim Chapter had successfully organized the District level Sports activities for the Special needs athletes in Gangtok and Pakyong districts in April and June 2023 despite facing COVID 19 and a massive Glacial Lake outbursts in last October that caused heavy floods and had affected the heavy Natural disaster in Sikkim.
In recognition of our Annual Reports/Achievements, SOB’s National President, Dr. Mallika Nadda wife of BJP National President, JP Nadda awarded the Letter of Appreciation during the AGM at Delhi.
On behalf of Sikkimese people, SOB, Sikkim extended the gratitude to Dr. Mrs. Mallika Nadda and expressed our willingness to host the National Championship at Sikkim on the auspicious occasion of the 50th year of Statehood under the theme, ‘Sunaulo Ani Samriddha Sikkim’ means Golden and Prosperous Sikkim.
Special Olympics Bharat, Sikkim is thankful to the HCM Shri Prem Singh Tamang (Golay) for his positive vision for the promotion of Sports activities to the Intellectual Disabled Athletes.
The Government of Sikkim has issued a Gazette notification announcing monetary awards for the medal winners athletes in the Special Olympics. Under this initiative, athletes who win a Gold Medal will receive a reward of Rs. 5 lakhs, Silver Medallists will be awarded Rs. 3 lakhs, and Bronze Medallists will be given Rs. 2 lakhs. This significant step aims to recognize and reward the achievements of differently-abled athletes, instilling a sense of motivation and encouraging them to pursue excellence in sports.
Special Olympics Bharat is a National Sports Federation, recognised by the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Govt of India and, is accredited by Special Olympics Inc. to conduct sports and development programmes all over India. Founded in 2001 by Air Marshal Denzil Keelor PVSM, KC, AVSM, VRC, it is spread across all the states and union territories of India.
