STATE LEVEL SCIENCE SEMINAR 2024 CONCLUDES TODAY AT SCERT

The State Level Science Seminar 2024 on the topic - Artificial Intelligence: Potentials and Concerns was organized today at State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) Lower Burtuk, Near Helipad, Gangtok, Sikkim.
Science Seminar is an annual feature of SCERT organized under the guidance of National Council of Science Museum (NCSM), Ministry of Culture, Government of India. The objective of the competition is to inculcate a spirit of scientific inquiry and analytical thinking in the minds of young students.
A total of 12 Schools from across the state participated in the Seminar who were also the District Level Winners (1st and 2nd position holders) of their respective districts. PM SHRI Government Senior Secondary School, Singtam and PM SHRI Government Secondary School, Ralap represented Gangtok district in the competition. Similarly, Government Secondary School, Ringhim and PM SHRI Government Senior Secondary School, Mangan represented Mangan district. Government Secondary School, Mangzing and Government Senior Secondary School, Lingmoo were district level winners who represented Namchi district. Likewise, Gyalshing Govt. Girls Sr. Sec. School, Gyalshing and Govt. Secondary School Central Martam represented Gyalshing District. Pakyong district was represented by Govt. Secondary School Pacheykhani and Govt. Senior Secondary School Machong whereas Soreng district was represented by Government Senior Secondary School Tharpu and Government Secondary School, Chumbong.
Mr. Shital Sharma – Assistant Professor, Dept. of AI & DS Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology, Majhitar, Sikkim, Ms. Abigail Rai – Assistant Professor, Dept. of Computer Science, NBBD College Tadong and Mr. Vivek Thapa - Assistant Professor, School of Information Technology, ICFAI University Gangtok were the judges for the competition.
The program began with welcoming of the guests and judges by offering them traditional scarves by JD SCERT – Dr. Shanti Ram Adhikari followed by lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the panel of judges. Dr. Shanti Ram Adhikari gave the welcome address by giving a brief background of the programme and offered his best wishes to all the participants.
Ms. Archana Limboo – Winner of National Science Seminar 2023 shared her experiences of the National Level Science Seminar 2023 and shared valuable feedback for the participants. This was followed by the seminar presentation by 12 participants from various districts.
The Judges offered their valuable feedback to the participants and urged the prospective winners to be confident and have faith in one’s abilities and give their best. They also offered their best wishes to the participant representing the state at the National Level Science Seminar 2024.
Government Senior Secondary School Tharpu, Soreng District was adjudged as the winner and Government Secondary School Ringhim, Mangan District and Government Senior Secondary School Singtam, Gangtok District were adjudged as the 1st and 2nd Runners-up respectively. Government Senior Secondary School, Tharpu will be representing the state in National Level Science Seminar to be held in Nehru City, Mumbai on 20th November 2024.
Deputy Director SCERT- Mr. Rajiv Phillip proposed the vote of thanks and Ms. Lensong Lepcha – Assistant Professor, SCERT served as the Master of Ceremony of the programme. The details of the programme were recorded and reported by Mr. Ajay Pokhrel, Principal attached to SCERT.
The overall co-ordinator of the programme was Mr. Parijit Sutradhar – Assistant Professor SCERT cum State Coordinator, Science Seminar 2024.
