As part of the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) initiative, the Women and Child Development Department, Gyalshing District, conducted a 10-day special programme scheduled from 2nd to 11th October 2024 at the ICDS Centre, Darap, Gyalshing.
The programme commenced with a welcome address by Mrs.Leela Hangma Limboo ( AWW, Darap)
Mr Joshua Lama, District Programme Officer ( South/ West) cum Deputy Director delivered a talk on government schemes aimed at supporting women and children, with a focus on adolescent school girls, children and caregivers. He also emphasised the importance of celebrating the international girl child day and the measures the Department has taken up to empower the girls and women of the state.
Ms. Roma Basnett, District Mission Coordinator( DHEW) also sensitised the attendees on the significance of observing girl child day and encouraged the girls to come forward and take all the possible opportunities in empowering themselves for their future and engage students in discussions about gender equality and the challenges girls faced in the Indian context.
The programme was attended by adolescent girls from Govt. Darap Senior Secondary School & private schools,New Tulips Kindergarten School & Vision Academy Darap.
The celebration of International Girl Child Day at Darap ICDS was a resounding success. It not only educated students about important issues but also empowered them to become advocates for change.
The event highlighted the need to address challenges faced by girls, promoting empowerment, gender equality, and the recognition of Girls' Rights.
