School Soil Health Programme: Training on Soil Sampling and Testing organised by ATMA in coordination with the Agriculture Department, Pakyong & ICAR-KVK.
Pakyong, 31st Aug 2024: The school soil health programme- training on soil sampling and testing was organised by ATMA in coordination with the Agriculture Department, Pakyong District & ICAR-KVK at Eklavya Model Resident School in Parakha today.
The programme aims to enlighten young minds on the significance of soil health and promote sustainable farming practices, emphasising the crucial role students play in ensuring the well-being of both Agriculture and Mother Earth.
During the event, Ms Rebecca Gurung, Deputy Director cum Deputy Project Director ATMA, Agriculture Department, provided valuable insights into soil health and agriculture. She highlighted the importance of tailoring fertiliser usage based on soil health. She emphasised the need for students to understand the dynamic relationship between soil health and plant growth, stressing the importance of adopting eco-friendly farming practices. She also gave detailed information on the process of soil sampling & testing. Additionally, she also shared insights into the essential elements required for maintaining healthy soil.
The technical session and PowerPoint presentation on soil sampling and testing were given by Dr Smruti Ranjan Padhan, Scientist Agronomy, ICAR-KVK. He underscored the role of nutrients in maintaining soil health & fertility. He gave detailed information on soil sampling and testing. He also stressed the importance of soil health cards.
A practical session on soil sampling in the field was provided by Dr Boniface Lepcha, Scientist, ICAR-KVK, which was followed by testing in the soil lab.
Detailed information on the use of the Harvesto Kit was provided by Smt Binita Chettri, AI and Shri Rupesh Gurung, Krishi Sevak.
The programme had the presence of teachers ,students & staffs from ERMS Parakha, Agriculture Inspectors, ATM-ATMA and staffs of Agriculture Department.
The welcome address was proposed by Smt. Sabina Gurung, AI Parakha & Vote of thanks was proposed by Shri Dinesh Subba, PGT Geography.
