Gangtok, 23.08.2024 — The Commerce and Industries Department of the Government of Sikkim recently conducted a one-day workshop to kick off implementation of the central scheme UNNATI 2024 launched by the DPIIT under the Ministry of Commerce & Industries , Govt. of India. This workshop was organized to bring together pivotal stakeholders, including representatives from District Industries Centres (DICs), Lead Banks, and Chartered Accountants to ensure an effective implementation strategy for the initiative within the state.
The workshop commenced with a formal welcome address delivered by Ms. Choden Gyatso, Additional Secretary cum Director of Commerce and Industries Department. A power point presentation on the scheme guidelines and procedures by the state designated Programme Implementation Unit (PIU) from Grant Thornton highlighting the potential benefits and strategic partners.
Shri Karma Bonpo, IAS, Secretary of the Commerce and Industries Department, underscored the necessity of a unified approach for spreading awareness and sensitizing the functionaries , Bankers and suggested a collaborative effort between various agencies and stakeholders to ensure the successful deployment of UNNATI 2024 in Sikkim . The Director informed that workshops for UNNATI are being planned in all the districts through the DICs in consultation with local representatives and district functionaries for maximum awareness.
Shri Abhimanyu Dhakal, President of the UNNATI Foundation, shared his insights on the importance of consultancy support for local entrepreneurs. He detailed his experiences with previous schemes, including challenges in obtaining clearances and securing loans.
In his concluding remarks, the Secretary urged banks to expedite loan approvals and support eligible entrepreneurs proactively. He also emphasized the need for establishing similar organizations like UNNATI Foundation in all districts to assist with procedural requirements and advocated for the formation of entrepreneur associations within the state.
The workshop concluded with a formal vote of thanks by Shri Hemant Khatiwada, Deputy Secretary of the Commerce and Industries Department.
