A major landslide occurred at Dipudara, Balutar, Singtam this morning on 20.08.2024 at around 7:30 am.
Major cracks have formed along the Singtam Dikchu road hence making the road inaccessible. The temporary road diversion has been made through Dochum along Singtam Dikchu.
The landslide was visited by the District Collector, Gangtok, Mr Tushar Nikhare along with BDO Khamdong, Sr. Geologist Mines and Geology, Training Officer/DM, OC GREF, Zilla panchayat, Ward panchayat and affected public.
The landslide has affected 6 no houses belonging to
1. Mr Kalu Chettri
2. Mr Kul bdr Subba
3. Mr Anand Tamang
4. Mr Dhanraj Rai
5. Mr Neeru Hangma Subba
6. Mr Taran Bdr Chettri
The houses have been evacuated and the people residing in the houses have been shifted to Nhpc Guest House, Balutar which has been identified as Relief Camp. BDO Khamdong is in charge of the relief camp.
The Plant Head of NHPC has reported that the GIS building of the Teesta Stage (V)project has suffered severe damage. A technical team from Delhi will visit to assess the situation and recommend measures for restoring the NHPC site.
DC, Gangtok has directed BRO to immediately start restoration work on the road damaged by the slide. BRO has assured that the road will be made operational at the earliest.
Further instructions have been given to the Department of Mines and Geology for carrying out a detailed investigation of landslides thereby suggesting short-term and long-term restoration work.
