Restoration and Safety Measures Undertaken Following Landslide Incidents in GMC
Gangtok, 11th June: Due to incessant rainfall of June 10, landslides incidents were reported under GMC. A team led by the Additional District Collector, Mr Milan Rai accompanied by Deputy Director, Disaster Management, Mr Sonam Wongyal Lepcha and line department officials visited the site to assess the situation and provide necessary assistance in accordance with SDRF norms in and around Gangtok Municipal Corporation today.
In rural areas, the Sub Divisional Magistrate, Rabdang, Mr Suresh Rai along with concerned Block Development Officers and line department officials, also visited the affected areas.
A series of landslides occurred in various regions under the Gangtok Municipal Corporation (GMC) and Block Administrative Centers (BAC), resulting in significant property damage, disruptions to infrastructure and animal casualty. Immediate inspections and preliminary restoration efforts have been initiated. Details of the affected areas and actions taken are placed below.
1. Deorali, Pani House, GMC.
Major Landslide occurred above Shiv Mandir, Pani House thereby damaging the Mandir and disrupting the pipelines.
Action Taken: Immediate inspection carried out. Line departments mobilised.
Trees posing threat has been removed.
2. Gairigaon, Tadong, GMC
Landslide occurred near the house of Mr S T Bhutia at Gairigaon, Tadong thereby severely damaging his house. Garage along with two private vehicles got damaged. PHE pipelines damaged
Action Taken: Immediate inspection carried out SDRF carrying out rescue operation.
3.Lower Tadong. GMC
3"pipelines along Jhora beside Sikkim University Lower Tadong has been washed out thereby affecting drinking water.
Action Taken:Temporary Restoration initiated
4. Namnang GMC
Major Slip below Tenzing and Tenzing
Action Taken: Immediate inspection carried out Slide covered with tarpaulin
5.Tadong GMC
Major slide at Tadong above Nar Bahadur Bhandari Degree College Damage caused to houses.
Damage caused to the ground of Lumsey Junior High School
Government Quarter of Education
Department Severely Damaged at Lumsey
Action Taken: Immediate inspection carried out. Slide covered with tarpaulin
6.Tathangchen, GMC
Slip occurred along the Secretariat road below Palace
Action Taken: Slip Clearance initiated
7. Khamdong BAC
Major damages caused to houses under
Rabdang Ward.
Death of 1 no of milch animal under
Rabdang Ward
Damages caused to houses at Teniok Ward.
Action Taken: Inspection being carried out. Ex-Gratia will be disbursed as per the SDRF norms
8.Ranka BAC
Damages caused to houses under Rey
Ward
Action Taken: Inspection being carried out. Ex-Gratia will be disbursed as per the SDRF norms.
9.Nandok BAC
Military Water Supply pipeline below
Khadi posing threat to Kopibari Ward no 6.
Damages caused to houses under Syari
Ward
Action Taken: Inspection being carried out Ex-Gratia will be disbursed as per the SDRF norms.
10. Singtam Nagar Panchayat.
Due to heavy rainfall the water level of Rani Khola had increased in the morning however during the day time it was at much lower level.
