World Environment Day Celebration
The State Pollution Control Board-Sikkim celebrated the World Environment Day 2024 in the theme “Land Restoration, Desertification and Drought Resilience”. On the occasion of World Environment Day 2024, the State Pollution Control Board-Sikkim in co-ordination with all industrial units in the state organized plantation drive and also sensitized the people for making eco-friendly choices. The day was also celebrated by organizing quiz competition, video presentation, banner display etc.
On the auspicious occasion of World Environment Day 2024, the PCCF-cum-Secretary, Forest & Environment Department Dr. Pradeep Kumar in presence of Member Secretary Dr. Gopal Pradhan, Senior Officers and other staffs inaugurated the LED Board at Forest Secretariat, Deorali, Gangtok installed by State Pollution Control Board-Sikkim under the aegis of Central Pollution Control Board, MoEF&CC, Government of India. The State Pollution Control Board-Sikkim has been regularly carrying out awareness programme in collaboration with various stakeholders. The Board also came up with mass awareness programme for protection and conservation of environment among the public on the World Environment Day. LED Board has been installed to showcase the activities being taken up for environmental protection and conservation in the state to promote general awareness about the environmental issues.
During the occasion six monthly newsletter Issue 7 and Issue 8 and a report on single use plastic survey were also released.
As a pre-event to World Environment Day 2024, State Pollution Control Board-Sikkim organised a programme with Health Care Facilities (HCFs) on 27/05/’24 wherein Sh. J. C. Babu, Scientist ‘E’ from Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) who is also Regional Director of CPCB, Bangalore as Resource person highlighted the compliances to be made by HCFs as per the Bio-Medical Waste Management (BMW) Rules 2016.
The Regional Director, CPCB-Bangalore deliberated on practical approach to render a Health Care Facility (HCF) compliant with the BMW Rules, 2016. The lecture was chaired by Dr. Gopal Pradhan, Member Secretary SPCB-Sikkim, and attended by CMO (Namchi), Additional Director and Joint Director, Health Department, Medical Officer from CRH, Manipal, 5th Mile,Tadong and Senior Officials and representatives from SPCB-Sikkim and Government and Private Health Care Facilities in Sikkim.
In another collaborative approach SPCB-Sikkim also felicitated six government school students with cash prizes of Rs. 5000/- each for participating in essay competition on plastic waste management. These students were adjudged winners by the Education Department.
