Yuksam to host grand annual Pang-Lhabsol festival from August 21-28
Gyalshing, August 1: Yuksam, the erstwhile capital of Sikkim, is gearing up to host an annual Pang-Lhabsol Festival in a grand manner from August 21 to 28, celebrating the State's rich religious, cultural and spiritual heritage.
The festival is being organised by the Pang-Lhabsol Celebration Committee, Yuksam, under the guidance of Tourism & Civil Aviation Minister and Yuksam-Tashiding MLA Mr Tshering T. Bhutia, who is also the Chief Patron of the Pang-Lhabsol Celebration Committee 2026.
As part of the preparations, the Pang-Lhabsol Celebration Committee on Wednesday held a preparatory meeting and curtain-raiser programme, followed by a joint inspection of the festival venue at Norbugang, Yuksam, to review arrangements for the eight-day celebration.
Pang Lhabsol is one of Sikkim's most revered festivals, commemorating the consecration of Mt. Khangchendzonga as the guardian deity of the State. Celebrated annually, the festival symbolises the spiritual bond between the people of Sikkim and Mt. Khangchendzonga, with special prayers and traditional rituals offered in reverence to the sacred mountain.
The eight-day festival will feature a series of religious, spiritual and cultural programmes showcasing Sikkim's rich traditions and heritage.
As part of this year's celebrations, the Khangchendzonga Motorcycle Club (KMC) will organise the annual Pang Lhabsol Ride from Pemayangtse, Pelling, to Yuksam on August 21. Motorcycle enthusiasts from across the State have been invited to register and participate in the ride.
Similarly, Yuksam Tourism Development Committee (YTDC) will also organise pilgrimage trekking to Dzongri through the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Khangchendzonga National Park, up to Dzongri, culminating at the sacred Doodh Pokhari. Registration for the pilgrimage trek is open to all interested participants.
Every year, monks from Pemayangtse Monastery, accompanied by local devotees, undertake a pilgrimage to Dablagang, Dzongri, where special prayers are offered to Mount Khangchendzonga, revered as the guardian deity of Sikkim.
The festival is being organised by the Pang-Lhabsol Celebration Committee, Yuksam, with support from Khangchendzonga National Park, Gyalshing Division, under the Forest & Environment Department, and the Tourism & Civil Aviation Department, Government of Sikkim.
On the main festival day, August 28, monks from Pemayangtse Monastery and local devotees will offer special prayers at Dzongri, while simultaneous religious ceremonies will be held at Norbugang, Yuksam.
The celebrations will conclude with colourful cultural performances and a musical evening, the organisers informed.
