YSSC, Sukhim Celebrates the Birth Anniversary of Iman Singh Chemjong

Gyalshing,January 1(IPR):The 122nd birth anniversary of Limboo litterateur and historian Iman Singh Chemjong was celebrated today here at the Auditorium of Sancha Man Limboo Govt College, Arigoan, Gyalshing, Sikkim. Yakthung Sapsok Saplon Chumbho Sukhim, a Limboo literary association, had organised the commemorative event.
Mr Bhim Hang Limboo, Minister of Buildings and Housing, Labour Departments, attended the event as the Chief guest,accompanied by Dr Indra Hang Subba(MP Lok Sabha), Chairpersons, Advisors, OSDs, Mr AB Subba Secretary Roads and Bridges, Mr Milan Kumar Limboo, SPSC Member, Mr Chandan Singh Limboo, SDM Yuksam, Zilla Members, Panchayats, Officials, literary figures,Members of YSSC and Limboos from across the state.
The Chemjong Jayanti is held annually amidst Limboo literature-based activities. The highlight of the event is the presentation of the prestigious Iman Singh Chemjong Literary Award.
The award for the year was conferred to Mr Indra Kumar Limboo(Poet/Writer/Lyricist)of Lower Baluthang, Gyalshing,West Sikkim, while Mr Ashok Kumar Tsong ,Former MLA/Social Activist, was feted with the Special Chemjong Award.
The virtual competition on story writing, essay and poetry was another highlight of the programme. The winners of literary competitions recited their works at the event.
YSSCS also released 6 different books, magazines and 1 video on 'Echoes of Bali Hang Tongnam'.
Dr Indra Hang Subba, in his brief address, urged the youth to come forward to preserve, develop and uplift the Limboo language, culture, and literature. He said that it was because of the sincere effort, dedication and selfless works of Iman Singh Chemjong for Limboo language and literature, the Limboo community were able to keep alive their distinct cultural heritage in the form of language and literature. He added that contributions of Iman Singh Chemjong in the cultural realms of the Limboo community should not be forgotten and his works for the upliftment of the Limboo language and literature should be an inspiration for new generations.  
Dr Subba maintained that community-based literary progression should go in tandem with socio-economic development, along with sharpening and enhancing inner talents and skills. He also suggested the Limboo Societies and Associations to organise talks on various topics that can benifit the community as a whole by inviting resource persons having depth and specilised knowledge on various subjects.
Dr Subba further appreciated YSSC for working as a front organization in the Limboo literary arena and assured that the pertaining issues of the community(Limboos)shall be addressed with full commitment and determination in future,working in close coordination with the government.
At the event, Mr Lall Hang Limboo, Sub Editor, YSSC, presented a brief life history and literary journey of Iman Singh Chemjong, followed by a brief introduction of Awardees Mr Ashok Kumar Tsong and Mr IK Limboo by Mr Kundan Limboo(Vice President)and Mr BL  Sawaden (Jury Member), respectively.
Mr Ashok Kumar Tsong, in his address, expressed gratitude to YSSC Sukhim for the prestigious award bestowed on him and
appreciated the work done by the Association for the promotion of the limboo language at par with other languages in the region.Mr Tsong further urged to maintain unity for the general development of the  community, keeping aside personal motives.
Mr IK Limboo thanked YSSC for considering him worthy of the Iman Singh Chemjong Award 2026 and expressed that for him, the award meant added responsibilities and an encouragement to keep serving the literature.  
Earlier,the welcome address was proposed by Mr Raju Limboo,President and the vote of thanks by Mr Amal Singh Limboo,Treasurer.
