Weekly Inspection Conducted by ADC Team at Bojoghari
Gangtok, March 7 (IPR): An inspection team comprising officers from various line departments, led by Additional District Magistrate (ADM), Gangtok, Mr Sisum Wangchuk Bhutia, conducted an inspection in the Bojoghari area under Burtuk, Gangtok, today.
The objective of the inspection was to verify the adherence of commercial establishments to labour laws, food safety and hygiene standards, timely updating of required documents, and the maintenance of clean and proper sanitation facilities for customers.
During the inspection, the team visited petrol pumps, fast food outlets, restaurants, medical stores, and hardware stores in the area. The officials examined relevant documents, assessed food hygiene practices, and reviewed labour welfare provisions. The officials also carried out fuel delivery quantity and density checks at petrol pumps to ensure accuracy in fuel dispensing and compliance with the provisions of the Legal Metrology Act, 2009.
During the inspection, several discrepancies were observed. The commercial establishments concerned were fined under various provisions of laws pertaining to food safety regulations, labour welfare, and child labour. Fast food outlets found failing to comply with guidelines of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) were fined under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
It may be noted that two minors were found to be working in a commercial establishment at Tashi View Point during the inspection. The matter was identified by Assistant Labour Commissioner, Gangtok District, Mr Suman Subba, along with officials from the Labour Department, who immediately identified the situation as a violation of the Child and Adolescent Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, 1986. The relevant documents were taken into record by the officers, and the owner has been notified to appear before Women, Child, Senior Citizen and Divyangjan Welfare Department on a designated day.
The inspection was also attended by SDPO, Gangtok, Mr Mingyur Tempo Nadik,Bazaar Officer, Urban Development Department (UDD), Ms Babita Rai,Bazaar Inspector, UDD, Mr Tamding Chewang Bhutia and senior officers from various line departments.
