WCDD Aims to Create Safe Workplace Environment for Women Entreprenuers
Gangtok, February 19 (IPR):
Ms Pamin Lepcha, MLA cum Advisor Women and Child Development Department (WCDD) Government of Sikkim (GoS), graced the Workplace Safety Intervention for Women Entrepreneurs, Women Home Stay Operators and Women Self Help Group as the Chief Guest here at a local hotel in Gangtok today.
The programme was organised by Women and Child Development Department GoS in collaboration with various line departments, SIKKIM INSPIRES and Progressive Learning Foundation.
The programme had the presence of Ms Normit Lepcha Secretary WCDD, Ms Bandana Rai Additional Secretary WCDD , Ms Radha Pradhan Chief Executive Officer Sikkim State Rural Livelihood Mission (SRLM) Rural Development Department, Ms Manisha Cintury Joint Secretary WCDD, Senior Officers and Officers of various line departments, and Mr Samuel Khaiba Director Progressive Learning Foundation.
The main objective of the programme was to create a safe workplace environment for women by creating a module based on the feedback received today. The programme will be conducted in all the six districts to create a module through feedback which aims to create a safe and secure environment for Women entreprenuers throughout the State.
Ms Pamin Lepcha, in his keynote address, appreciated the effort of the department to make a good module through interaction with the stakeholders which will assist in good governance of the State. She emphasised on women entrprenuers who have always faced challenges in form of limited capital investment, social and mental harassment, and male dominated business network. She also stressed on better facilitating environment for female entrepreneurs to help kickstart their endeavour for being self-sufficient. The Advisor hoped that the module which will be created through interactive session will lead to good governance in the near future. She concluded her speech by giving her best wishes to female entrpreneurs and thanked the organisers for the invitation.
Ms Normit Lepcha in her address urged the participants to create groups with common interest to share their experiences and move forward. She thanked Sikkim INSPIRES and line departments for their continuous support and contributions.
Ms Bandana Rai shared the objective behind preparing a module in making workplace safer for women. Further, she said that the training will take place in all the six districts which will help female entrprenuers to be self-sufficient in life. Furthermore, she also raised issues affecting women entreprenuers like violence, sexual harassment, social and mental harassment and limited funding. Concluding her address, she hoped that the interactive session will lead to a better module making it a secure and safe environment for women entreprenuers in the near future.
The programme also featured an interactive session chaired by Mr Samuel Khaiba wherein challenges, support and safety of women in workplace were discussed with the stakeholders. During this session, various bottlenecks pertaining to female business endeavours such as lack of funding, safety from sexual harassment and need for support system for women entrepreneurs were discussed at great length.
