Viksit Bharat Young Professionals Roundtable Held at Sikkim Government College, Namchi
Namchi, 4 August (IPR): The Viksit Bharat Young Professionals Roundtable was organised by My Bharat Kendra, Namchi, under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, at Sikkim Government College, Namchi, today. The programme was held on the theme “Youth in Democracy and Government for Viksit Bharat.”
The programme brought together young professionals, youth representatives, faculty members and students to deliberate on the role of youth in strengthening democracy, promoting innovation, and contributing towards the vision of Viksit Bharat. It aimed to encourage meaningful dialogue, nurture leadership among young people and promote their active participation in nation-building.
Chairman of the Sikkim State Cooperative Supply and Marketing Federation Limited (SIMFED), Mr Tenzing Dorjee Bhutia, graced the programme as the Chief Guest, while Chairman of the Sikkim Art, Culture and Heritage Development Board (SACHDB), Mr Sanjay Dilpali Rai, attended the programme as the Guest of Honour.
Addressing the gathering, Mr Tenzing Dorjee highlighted the vision of Viksit Bharat and underscored the importance of youth participation, innovation, and collective responsibility in achieving the goal of a developed India.
He also spoke on the vision of the Chief Minister of Sikkim, Mr Prem Singh Tamang, highlighting his commitment to inclusive development, quality education, youth empowerment, sustainable growth and good governance. He called upon the youth to actively participate in nation-building and contribute towards building a progressive and developed Sikkim.
Highlighting the Nasha Mukti Abhiyan, the Chief Guest urged students to stay away from drugs and other harmful substances and remain focused on their education. He encouraged them to maintain discipline and work diligently towards achieving their goals. Assuring students of the State Government’s continued support, he stated that the Chief Minister remains committed to assisting deserving students facing genuine financial and other challenges in pursuing their education.
Mr Sanjay Dilpali Rai, in his address, encouraged the youth to preserve and promote the rich cultural heritage of the State while embracing innovation, leadership and national development.
During the panel discussion, he elaborated on the concept of Gen Z, describing it as a generation guided by good values, gratitude, growth, governance and a strong sense of responsibility towards society and the nation. He emphasised that the vision of Viksit Bharat can be achieved only when young people become active contributors to national development through innovation, discipline, leadership and community service. He encouraged students to uphold integrity, strengthen their skills, preserve Sikkim’s rich cultural heritage and traditions, embrace entrepreneurship, and actively participate in democratic processes. He urged the youth to become agents of positive change and play a leading role in building a developed, inclusive, culturally vibrant and self-reliant India.
Alongside, Ms Kezia Chettri, in her presentation, highlighted various flagship initiatives of the Hon’ble Prime Minister aimed at empowering the youth and realising the vision of Viksit Bharat. She elaborated on the Viksit Bharat Young Leaders Dialogue (VBYLD) as a platform that enables young people to contribute innovative ideas and actively participate in nation-building.
She also highlighted My Bharat (Mera Yuva Bharat) as a national platform that connects youth with opportunities for volunteerism, community service, skill development and civic engagement. Further, she spoke on various initiatives of the Hon’ble Prime Minister focused on quality education, digital innovation, entrepreneurship, skill development, employment generation and inclusive growth, stating that these initiatives are laying the foundation for a confident, skilled and future-ready generation.
During the panel discussion, Assistant Professor Dr Bitu Subba spoke on the theme, “Youth in Democracy and Government for Viksit Bharat.” He emphasised that young people are the driving force of a strong democracy and play a vital role in ensuring transparent, accountable and people-centric governance. He encouraged students to participate actively in democratic processes, remain informed about public policies and uphold constitutional values.
Assistant Professor Dr Panuongri Palzu shared his perspective on the vision of Viksit Bharat, stating that building a developed nation requires the collective efforts of every citizen, particularly the youth. He emphasised that true development encompasses quality education, innovation, ethical leadership, social responsibility, environmental sustainability and inclusive progress. He urged students to utilise their knowledge, skills, creativity and leadership potential to address real-world challenges and contribute meaningfully towards building a self-reliant and developed India.
During the interaction, Ms Kezia Chettri highlighted that contributing to the vision of Viksit Bharat is not just confined to any particular academic discipline. She stated that individuals from science, engineering, medicine, commerce, law, humanities and the arts all have an important role to play in nation-building through innovation, professional excellence, ethical conduct, community service and active civic engagement.
The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and faculty members, who actively engaged in the discussions and shared their perspectives on youth leadership and democratic participation.
The programme concluded with the distribution of prizes by the District Youth Officer (DYO), Gyalshing, Mr Pradeep Baisla of My Bharat Kendra.
Among those present were Chief Education Officer (CEO), Namchi, Mr GP Sharma, Principal of Sikkim Government College, Namchi, Mr Deepak Tiwari, Vice Principal, Mr Sanjay Rai, faculty members, representatives of My Bharat Kendra, and students of Government College Kamrang.
