Union Minister of State for Labour and Employment Distributes PPOs Under Prayaas Yojana in Gangtok

Gangtok, June 16 (IPR): A programme organised by the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) was held in Gangtok today in the presence of Union Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Ms  Shobha Karandlaje, highlighting the Government of India’s commitment to strengthening social security coverage and promoting employee welfare.
The programme was attended by the Regional Provident Fund Commissioner, Mr Kessang Tenzing, Secretary of Commerce and Industries Ms Karma D Youtso, Secretary of the Labour Department Mr Bhim Thatal, officials from various departments, representatives of EPFO, and members of the press.
Welcoming the gathering, the organisers underscored the importance of ensuring timely access to social security benefits and pension services for workers and retirees.
On the occasion, two long-serving employees of Sikkim Distilleries Ltd., Mr Padam Bahadur Pradhan and Ms Amrita Chettri, who have been members of EPFO since 1996, were felicitated as they prepare to superannuate after distinguished careers spanning 33 and 39 years respectively, Minister  handed over Pension Payment Orders (PPOs) to them under the Prayaas Yojana, enabling them to receive pension benefits in a seamless manner immediately upon retirement.
The Union Minister also launched the Annual Success Report of MSME Development and Facilitation Office (DFO), Gangtok, highlighting the achievements and initiatives undertaken by the office in supporting micro, small and medium enterprises across the region.
Earlier, mementoes were presented to the Union Minister by Mr Kesang Tenzing, Regional Provident Fund Commissioner, and Mr Rahul Kamble, Assistant Director, MSME-DFO, Gangtok. An annual success report booklet was also presented on the occasion.
In a symbolic gesture promoting environmental conservation and sustainability, the Union Minister, accompanied by the Secretaries of the Commerce & Industries and Labour Departments, planted saplings within the premises of EPFO.
Mr Kesang Tenzing, Regional Provident Fund Commissioner, proposed the vote of thanks and expressed gratitude to the Hon’ble Union Minister for her presence at the programme. He briefly outlined the success of the Prayaas Yojana, describing it as a transformative initiative that has enabled retiring employees to receive their Pension Payment Orders on the day of superannuation, ensuring timely access to pension benefits. He also thanked all departments and stakeholders for their cooperation in making the programme a success.
