Training Programme on Preparation of District Census Handbook Conducted at Gyalshing

Gyalshing, June 25 (IPR): A one-day Training Programme on the Preparation of District Census Handbook (DCHB) for Village Directory Officials and Field Functionaries was conducted at the Conference Hall of the District Administrative Centre (DAC), Gyalshing, today. The programme was chaired by District Collector-cum-Principal Census Officer, Gyalshing, Mr Tenzing D. Denzongpa.
The programme was attended by ADC(HQ), Ms Tripti Hangma Subba, SDM cum Charge Officer, Gyalshing (Rural), Mr Sandesh Subba, SDM cum Charge Officer, Dentam (Rural) Mr Nanda Kumar Karki along with Village Directory Officials, Field Functionaries, Technical Assistants, Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS) and officials representing various charge offices and revenue blocks of Gyalshing District.
Addressing the participants, the Chair highlighted the importance of the Census as a critical source of demographic and socio-economic data that supports evidence-based planning, policy formulation and developmental initiatives. He emphasised the need for accuracy, consistency and timely completion of census-related assignments to ensure the preparation of a comprehensive and reliable District Census Handbook.
The technical session was facilitated by Mr Pravesh Rai, Statistical Investigator, Directorate of Census Operations, Gangtok. Through a detailed presentation, he elaborated on the significance of the Census and provided comprehensive guidance on the concepts, methodology, procedures and reporting formats associated with the preparation of the District Census Handbook and Village Directory.
The second session comprised practical hands-on training exercises, enabling participants to strengthen their understanding of data collection, compilation and documentation processes. Interactive discussions and deliberations provided clarity on operational procedures and addressed queries related to field implementation.
The programme concluded with a renewed commitment from all stakeholders towards ensuring the accurate, systematic and timely execution of census-related activities in the district. The training is expected to enhance the capacity of field-level functionaries and contribute significantly to the successful preparation of the District Census Handbook for Gyalshing District.
The programme ended with an interactive discussion for clarification of queries and feedback.
