Traditional Archery Tournament Marks Conclusion at Pakyong District

Pakyong, October 07 (IPR): The Traditional Archery (Bamboo/Recurve) Tournament, organised as part of the State-level Sports Activities 2025 to commemorate the Golden Jubilee of Statehood, concluded today at the Karthok Archery Range, Pakyong District.
The tournament was organised by the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs, Pakyong District.
Minister for Education, Sports & Youth Affairs, Law & Parliamentary Affairs, and MLA Namcheybong, Mr Raju Basnet, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The Special Guest for the event was Advisor to the Chief Minister and President of the Sikkim Archery Association, Mr Kunga Nima Lepcha.
Also present were Chairperson, Commerce & Industries Department, Ms Nim Chiki Sherpa; OSD to MLA Namcheybong, Mr Hari Rizal, Former Advisor, Mr Inchung Bhutia and Panchayat members.
In the final match, Regu, Chujachen defeated Phere Chochen, Lamaten with a score of 44–24, securing the championship title. The tournament featured 12 teams representing constituencies from across the state.
Outstanding archers were recognised in various categories:
First Kari – Mr Kalzang Pinsto Bhutia,
First Feri – Mr Pema Tshering Sherpa,
First Thubjee – Mr Thinley Bhutia,
Man of the Match – Mr Amit Pradhan (Regu, Chujachen), and
Man of the Tournament – Mr Thinley Gyatso Bhutia (Phere Chochen, Lamaten).
A letter of Felicitation was also presented by the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs to Mr Thom Tshering Bhutia, acknowledging him as a living legend of traditional archery.
Also present at the programme were Joint Director, Sports and Youth Affairs Department (Headquarter), Mr Sonam Palzor Lepcha, Joint Director (Coaching) Mr Jigme Y Lepcha, Deputy Director (Headquarter), Mr Karma Dorjee Bhutia, Deputy Director (Coaching), Mr Thupden Rongkup, Assistant Directors, Mr Robert Lepcha; Mr Bhanubhakta Chapagai, Mr Bharat Tamang and Mr Manoj Gurung, along with officials and staff from Sports and Youth Affairs Department, Pakyong.
