Gangtok, September 25 (IPR): Following the inaugural event of the three-day Exhibition-cum-Trade Fair under Prime Minister Vishwakarma Scheme at Chintan Bhawan undertaken by MSME-Development & Facilitation Office (DFO), Gangtok, Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), Government of India in collaboration with the Commerce & Industries Department, Government of Sikkim, the exhibition-cum-trade fair stalls at MG Marg was inaugurated today by Mr Samdup Lepcha, Minister for Social Welfare, Women & Child Development, and Printing & Stationery Departments, as the chief guest.
In his address, he highlighted the PM Vishwakarma Scheme's role in empowering artisans and craftspeople by providing collateral-free enterprise development loans of up to ₹3 lakh at a 5% interest rate. He urged the public to visit the stalls and support local artisans. He further stressed the importance of spreading awareness about the scheme to every corner of the state.
He reiterated that the trade fair offers artisans and entrepreneurs a valuable platform to showcase their traditional and modern crafts, connecting them with a wider market. This initiative not only promotes Sikkim's rich cultural heritage but also contributes to economic growth by fostering local businesses and entrepreneurship, he added.
The Minister visited the trade stalls, which featured an impressive array of traditional and modern crafts and showcased the immense talent of local artisans. Through his interaction with the artisans, he appreciated their dedication and craftsmanship and reaffirmed the state government's efforts to promote and preserve traditional crafts while empowering artisans with modern tools and market access.
This event, specifically organised for the beneficiaries of the PM Vishwakarma Scheme is going to be held from September 25 - 27, 2024. This event provides an opportunity for local artisans to showcase their products, connect with potential customers, and explore new markets.
