TEJAS Workshop Held in Soreng to Boost Entrepreneurship and Startup Ecosystem
Soreng, April 24 (IPR): The District Industries Centre (DIC), Soreng, in collaboration with Startup India and the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Government of India, organised a Transforming Entrepreneurial Journey Across States & Districts (TEJAS) workshop today at the Rurban Complex, Soreng.
The event was graced by the MLA (Soreng–Chakung) Mr Aditya Golay as the Chief Guest and was accompanied by ADC (Soreng) Mr DR Bista as the Guest of Honour.
Addressing the house, the Chief Guest, Mr Aditya Golay, motivated the gathering with a motivational speech, emphasising the role of entrepreneurship in improving individual livelihoods. He then assured continued government support through various schemes and highlighted upcoming projects that will provide shop spaces and fixed marketing centres for local entrepreneurs to sell their products. Further, he congratulated the DIC, Soreng and the Commerce and Industries Department, Government of Sikkim, for organising the event and urged participants to take full advantage of such initiatives.
ADC (Soreng) Mr DR Bista also addressed the audience, stressing the untapped potential of the district's youth. He described TEJAS as a vital platform for promoting entrepreneurship and livelihood generation. Emphasising the importance of becoming job creators rather than job seekers, he encouraged skill development and the mobilisation of local talents. He also highlighted the role of the district administration in converging various government schemes and building a strong entrepreneurial ecosystem. Touching upon the concept of Aatma Nirbhar, he urged participants to utilise local resources effectively. He also encouraged farmers to avail benefits under the Kisan Credit Card (KCC) scheme and stressed the scope of agro-based farming, envisioning Soreng as a model district.
GM (District Industries Centre, Soreng) Ms. Anula Gurung provided a comprehensive overview of the TEJAS initiative, highlighting that the workshop is being conducted to raise awareness about entrepreneurship and various government schemes. She elaborated on how TEJAS is designed to nurture aspiring entrepreneurs by equipping them with the necessary knowledge, guidance, and institutional support.
Further, she emphasised that initiatives like TEJAS are playing a crucial role in strengthening the startup ecosystem in Sikkim by creating greater awareness, fostering innovation, and encouraging youth participation in entrepreneurship. She also outlined the key provisions of the Sikkim Startup Policy, noting how it offers strategic support through incentives, mentorship, incubation, and access to funding opportunities.
She further highlighted the pivotal role of the DIC in facilitating business ideas, assisting with registrations, and connecting entrepreneurs to relevant schemes and support systems. She stressed that with sustained efforts and collaborative initiatives, Sikkim is steadily building a conducive environment for startups to grow and thrive.
Deputy Director (DPIIT) Mr Md. Alam Ansari, elaborated on the TEJAS initiative and the broader startup ecosystem. He discussed DPIIT's framework, its core pillars, and various schemes such as the Credit Guarantee Schemes (CGS), focusing on funding, incubation and market linkages.
The session was further led by Startup India DPIIT Associates Ms Seema Charan and Mr Rishi Dewan, who discussed the TEJAS initiative and its three pillars. They explained the startup ecosystem, including the Deep Tech category and elaborated on schemes like Startup India Seed Fund Scheme (SISFS) and Credit Guarantee Scheme for Startups (CGSS), outlining their features and application processes.
Head of Strategies and Key Initiatives (Tally Solutions) Mr Mukesh Khanna, conducted an interactive question and answer session, focusing on Aatma Nirbhar Bharat. The session emphasised the importance of self-reliance, encouraging participants to align their personal growth with the broader vision of a self-sufficient India.
Mr Yaikhomba Rajkumar, Founder and CEO of Addble, gave a thorough presentation on Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), explaining its role in democratising digital commerce. He highlighted opportunities for digital empowerment in Sikkim, including youth-led last-mile logistics and access to national markets.
Director (Nangia & Co LLP and TSA-Sikkim Inspires) Mr Om Prakash Mishra presented the Sikkim Startup Policy. He noted that the policy aims to foster a vibrant startup ecosystem through institutional support, incentives, incubation and infrastructure, ultimately promoting innovation, employment generation and sustainable enterprise growth.
The programme concluded with a demonstration of the SPARK portal by Ms Chimi Sherpa, AD (IT), who showcased its modules and highlighted its role in empowering entrepreneurs through a digital ecosystem. She also informed about other platforms such as the Sikkim Go portal and the Sikkim Innovation Hub, outlining their benefits for local entrepreneurs.
During the event, all participants were given Certificates of Participation.
