Soreng District enters its 3rd day of 78th Independence Day celebrations
Soreng, August 1 (IPR): The 78th Independence Day celebrations, were hosted at Jautar Stadium, Soreng continuing with fervor into its third day.
The day began with a football match between the Rural Development Department (RDD) and the Health Department. The Health Department emerged victorious with a score of 3-2. This match set an enthusiastic tone for the day.
Subsequent to the initial match, another inter-departmental football game was held between the Water Resource Development Department and the Agriculture & Horticulture Department. In this match, the Water Resource Development Department emerged victorious, scoring two goals.
Mr Erung Tenzing Lepcha, MLA (Rinchenpong) cum Advisor to the Roads and Bridges Department attended as the chief guest for the day. The event also had the presence of Mr Aditya Golay Former MLA, Zilla Panchayats, DC Soreng, ADC (Development), Mr Santosh Alley SDM (Mangalbarey), HODs, District Officers, dignitaries, students and the public at large.
Mr Erung Tenzing Lepcha addressed the gathering with inspiring words. In his address, he expressed his deep respect and admiration for the Hon’ble Chief Minister, Mr Prem Singh Tamang and extended a warm welcome to all present at the stadium.
In his speech, he emphasized the concept of "Shanti Sikkim," which suggests a peaceful and progressive outlook for the region. He spoke of Soreng as an inspirational district and highlighted his vision for Soreng district aiming to make it one of the best districts through collaborative efforts with Team Soreng. He then extended his best wishes to the organising committee.
The highlight of the day was the invitational men’s football match between Soreng United FC and KFC Siliguri. In a closely contested game, Soreng United FC won with a score of 2-1.
At the outset, the welcome address was delivered by Ms Rajani Pegha DPO (DDMA).
The program concluded with a vote of thanks from Mr Suk Raj Limboo who expressed gratitude towards all the participants, guests, and organizers for making the event a success.
The event also included a moment of recognition for Mr Nim Tenzing Sherpa, the winner of the State-level Badminton Tournament. He was felicitated by the Soreng Badminton Association (SBA) in collaboration with the Independence Day Celebration Committee (IDCC), an honour presented by Mr Erung Tenzing Lepcha and Mr Aditya Golay.
