Soreng District Observes Jal Mahotsav Pakhwada under Jal Jeevan Mission
Soreng, March 18 (IPR): Soreng District observed Jal Mahotsav Pakhwada under the Jal Jeevan Mission at Mendagaon Borbotey GPU. The fortnight-long celebration is being held from March 8 to March 22, 2026.
The event was graced by the District Collector (DC) of Soreng, Mr Dhiraj Subedi, as the Chief Guest.
Addressing the gathering, Mr Dhiraj Subedi congratulated the national awardees and appreciated the efforts of the ADC (Development), BDOs, and barefoot engineers for their significant contributions toward water conservation and management. He highlighted initiatives such as the Source Rejuvenation Programme, Dhara Vikas, Jal Shakti Kendra, water testing facilities, and rainwater harvesting. Emphasising the importance of sustainable water management, he noted that it is crucial for future generations, especially in water-stressed districts.
ADC (Development) Mr Gaayas Pega, in his address, underlined the vital role of water in daily life, agriculture, sanitation, and overall well-being. He elaborated on key initiatives like Jal Jeevan Mission, Dhara Vikas, and the campaign “Swacchha Pani, Swastha Hami.” He encouraged community participation and urged Village Water and Sanitation Committees to ensure efficient functioning and regular water supply. He also highlighted the importance of water testing laboratories.
The event featured the felicitation of National Awardees:
• Ms Sheela Subba, Panchayat President, Rumbuk GPU
• Ms Pushpa Cintury, Panchayat President, Upper Thambong GPU
• Mr Harsha Kumar Chettri, Panchayat President, Dodak GPU
During the programme, the DC also handed over drinking water schemes to the respective Gram Panchayats.
A pledge was administered as part of the Mahotsav, followed by an open discussion session.
The programme were attended by Panchayat President of Mendagaon Borbotey GPU, Ms Lachi Maya Tamang, along with other Panchayat Presidents and members, ADC (Development) Mr Gaayas Pega, BDO Chumbung Mr RK Gurung, BDO Daramdin Mr Ongdi Sherpa, DE (WRD) Mr Bikash Chettri, Deputy Director (RDD) Mr KB Subba, AE (Soreng Zilla) Mr Kamal Sharma, AE (Chumbung BAC) Mr Govind Dhittal, and other officials.
