Soreng District Observes International Day of Yoga 2026
Soreng, June 21 (IPR): Soreng District observed the “International Day of Yoga 2026”, under the theme “Yoga For Healthy Ageing”, at the Indoor Gymnasium Hall, Jautar, Soreng, today. The programme was organised by the Department of Ayush, Soreng PHC in collaboration with the Soreng District Administration and the Sports and Youth Affairs Department, Soreng.
Addressing the gathering, District Collector of Soreng, Mr Dhiraj Subedi highlighted the
significance of International Day of Yoga and emphasised the role of yoga in maintaining physical fitness and mental well-being. Referring to this year's theme, he encouraged everyone to adopt yoga as a regular practice for a healthier and more balanced lifestyle.
On the occasion, “Nasha Mukt Bharat Saptah” was also observed under the theme “Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan - Viksit Bharat Ki Pehchaan", as part of the nationwide observance of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. Participants took a pledge against drug abuse, administered by the District Collector.
During the event, the yoga session was conducted by Ms Pranita Gurung, PET (PM Shri BKGSSS, Namthang). The session witnessed the enthusiastic participation of approximately 133 participants.
The programme was attended by SDM (Soreng), Ms Sakchum Lepcha, Joint Director (Fisheries), Mr Lobsang Tamang, Senior Welfare Officer (SWD), Mrs Prativa Tamang, CDPO (Soreng), Mrs Gauri Tamang, DPO (Zilla), Mr Kumar Subba, Deputy Director (Sports and YA) Mrs Mamita Gurung, Medical Officer (AYUSH), Dr. Roshma Thapa, along with other officers and officials, and students.
