Soreng District Inaugurates “Aakanksha Haat” during “Sampoornata Abhiyan Samman Samaroh

The “Sampoornata Abhiyan Samman Samaroh”, under the Aspirational Block Programme (ABP) was held today at Rurban Complex in Soreng.
The programme was graced by Chairperson State Bank of Sikkim (SBS) Mr DB Gurung as chief guest and was accompanied by Advisor (Printing and Stationery Department) Mrs Pem Poki Bhutia, Chairpersons, Officers on Special Duty (Excise and AH&VS) and Additional Political Secretary (Soreng) Mr Erastus Lepcha.
The event also marked the inauguration of “Aakanksha Haat” at Soreng bazaar, a week-long exhibition that aims to provide platform for showcasing and promoting local products and innovations from the district. The exhibition also featured “Didi Ko Khajaghar”, a women led local food stall initiative.
In his address, the chief guest congratulated the district administration for its commendable progress under Aspirational Block Programme (ABP) and Aspirational District Programme (ADP). He then lauded the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Mr Prem Singh Tamang in the formation and development of Soreng district and praised the achievements of the district in health and education sectors. The chief guest further emphasised the needfor coordinated efforts in the government initiatives, mentioning Nasha Mukt Sikkim and encouraged the people to utilise the district’s upcoming development projects.
Addressing the house, DC (Soreng) presented a comprehensive profile of the district, highlighting its infrastructural assets and ongoing development initiatives. The DC then provided an overview of the Sampoornata Abhiyan Samman Samaroh and Akanksha Haat, underlining their significance in promoting holistic development within the district. Further, he informed that Chumbong block falls under Aspirational Block Programme of Soreng district, emphasising the importance of achieving Key Performance Indicator (KPIs) set under the programme. He also apprised that Chumbong block had successfully met its target KPIs during the course of the Sampoornata Abhiyan. Additionally, he elaborated on the district’s achievements under the Aspirational District Programme, mentioning progress in areas such as the distribution of Soil Health Cards and improvements in Ante-Natal Care (ANC) services.
The DC also acknowledged existing areas of concern, including institutional deliveries, internet connectivity and teaching learning outcomes. He then informed that the Soreng District Administration in collaboration with the Piramal Foundation has initiated 'Mohalla Classes' to enhance learning outcomes at the grassroots level. Also, heinformed about the future strategies that focused on rainwater harvesting, procurement of medical equipment, and other initiatives aimed at strengthening the district’s development framework.
The main highlight of the programme was the award ceremony, which recognised the efforts and achievements by individuals and institutions during Sampoornata Abhiyan under Aspirational Block Programme (ABP) conducted between July to September 2024.
The event also held an engaging experience sharing session, wherein government officials along with Anganwadi Workers and Self-Help Group (SHG) members shared personal stories of growth and support received from various government schemes and interventions.
