Sikkim State Cooperative Union (SICUN) Focuses on Expansion and Modernisation at 68th Board Meeting

Pakyong, September 28 (IPR): The 68th Board Meeting of the Sikkim State Cooperative Union (SICUN), was held at the SICUN, Assam Lingzey, today.
The meeting focused on strengthening the institutional framework, cooperative education, business expansion and overall organisational efficiency.
Addressing the gathering, Chairman SICUN, Dr Mangal Jit Rai outlined the vision for SICUN and emphasised on the key meeting agendas, offering insights into the various objectives to align with the long-term objective of empowering the institution. He also shed light on SICUN’s upcoming Silver Jubilee celebration scheduled for April 2, 2027, urging the members to contribute ideas to celebrate in a grandeur manner.
Additionally, CEO SICUN, Mr Shailesh Rai presented the Action Taken Report from the 67th Board Meeting, emphasising the detailed progress, budget allocations and divisional performance. He highlighted the achievements across SICUN’s key verticals, including Training & Capacity Building, Cooperative Development, Social Media & Digital Communication, Hostel & Hospitality and Business & Marketing.
During the meeting, various agendas were discussed, including key governance amendments to Chapter I of the Bye-laws to update SICUN’s registered office address to its present location at Assam Lingzey in Pakyong District. In addition, the board also considered a proposal for the creation of the post of Accounts Official in the institution.
Additionally, the members also considered and approved the proposal for insertion of a new objective as Clause (p) under Chapter-III (Objectives) of the Bye-laws of the Sikkim State Cooperative Union relating to the operation and management of the Common Service Centre (CSC) and SICUN Haat business activities.
Further, they also approved the proposal for incorporation of the Junior Cooperative Training Centre (JCTC) as Chapter-III(1) under the Bye-laws of the Sikkim State Cooperative Union-2002, including the proposed provisions relating to its establishment, objectives and functions.
On the administrative and financial front, the Board also greed to transfer SICUN’s existing bank accounts, specifically the Salary and Business & Marketing accounts from UBI Arithang to UBI Ranipool, alongside opening a bank account to streamline CSC operations.
The meeting also included deliberations on various topics aimed to strengthen SICUN’s institutional functioning, business activities and overall development.
Prior to the meeting, a celebratory ceremony was also held to mark the conferment of the prestigious SKOCH Award upon the Sikkim State Cooperative Union (SICUN). The award recognises SICUN’s integrated cooperative development, training and livelihood enhancement programme, which successfully cleared every phase of the competitive SKOCH evaluation process.
It is to be mentioned that SICUN will host its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on October 15, 2026.
