Sikkim International Film Festival 2026 presents a rich lineup of film screenings at Manan Kendra

Date: 22-Mar-2026
Gangtok, March 22 (IPR): The fourth day of the ‘Sikkim International Film Festival 2026’ continued to captivate audiences with an engaging lineup of film screenings held at Manan Kendra today. The programme showcased a rich blend of international, regional, and documentary films, reflecting diverse storytelling traditions and cinematic expressions from across the globe.
The day’s screenings commenced with ‘Endless April,’ a deeply reflective and poetic film by Russian filmmaker Anton Butakov. The film moved beyond the portrayal of an individual life to explore how history is experienced on a personal level, emphasising that the understanding of time and change is shaped not only by major historical events but also by quiet, everyday moments.
The second screening featured the Assamese film ‘Amateurs,’ directed and written by Dhiraj Kashyap. The film highlighted the spirit of amateur filmmaking in North East India, capturing the region’s natural beauty, cultural nuances, and social realities. It reflected a journey from archival documentation to contemporary independent cinema, often employing local, non-professional actors to present authentic narratives rooted in everyday life.
The third screening, ‘Echoes of the Woes,’ presented under the AI category and directed by Debargatha Maschatak, portrayed the emotional strain of familial separation through a minimalist narrative. The film emphasised silence, longing, and the psychological impact of prolonged waiting.
The final screening of the day featured ‘Nayak’ (1966) under the Indian Panorama section. The film explored the paradox of fame, juxtaposing a superstar’s celebrated public persona with his inner vulnerability and isolation. It underscored the idea that as individuals rise to greater heights of success, they may become increasingly detached from their true selves.
With the successful culmination of its fourth day, the Sikkim International Film Festival 2026 stands as a vibrant celebration of cinema, bringing together diverse voices and storytelling traditions from around the world.
