Sikkim Information Commission organises Inter-School Elocution-cum-Skit Competition on RTI Act-2005
Gangtok, September 18 (IPR): The Sikkim Information Commission organised an inter-school elocution-cum-skit competition on the Right to Information (RTI) Act, 2005, to promote awareness and understanding of the Act among school students at Tashi Namgyal Senior Secondary School, Gangtok, today.
State Information Commissioner, Sikkim Information Commission, Mr Kuber Bhandari, in his address, emphasised the importance of the Right to Information Act, 2005, in promoting transparency, accountability and citizen participation in governance.
He highlighted the need for greater awareness among students and citizens about their right to seek information from public authorities and encouraged the students to understand the significance of RTI as an important tool for strengthening democratic governance and ensuring greater transparency in the functioning of public institutions.
Addressing the gathering, Secretary, Sikkim Information Commission, Ms Jyotsna Mary Karthak, encouraged the participating students to develop a deeper understanding of the provisions of the Act and its role in promoting transparency, accountability and openness in public administration. She also appreciated the efforts of the students in presenting their perspectives on RTI through elocution and skit, and emphasised the importance of creating greater awareness of the Act among the younger generation.
The competition witnessed participation from students representing various schools, who presented elocution speeches and skits centred on the Right to Information Act, 2005. Through their presentations, the participants highlighted various aspects and the significance of the Act, demonstrating their understanding of the role of RTI in promoting transparency and accountability.
In the elocution competition, Modern Senior Secondary School secured the first position, followed by Burtuk Senior Secondary School in second position, Arithang Senior Secondary School in third position, Tashi Namgyal Senior Secondary School in fourth position and West Point Senior Secondary School in fifth position.
In the skit competition, Tashi Namgyal Senior Secondary School secured the first position, followed by Deorali Senior Secondary School in second position, Bojhoghari Senior Secondary School in third position, Enchey Senior Secondary School in fourth position and Tadong Senior Secondary School in fifth position.
The competition provided a platform for students to enhance their understanding of the Right to Information Act, 2005, while expressing their ideas and perspectives through creative and engaging presentations. The initiative also contributed towards encouraging greater awareness of the importance of transparency, accountability and informed citizen participation among the younger generation.
