Sikkim@50 State-Level Quiz Finale Concludes with EMRS Parakha Lifting the Sikkim@50 Trophy

The Grand Finale of Sikkim@50 State-Level Inter-School Quiz Competition for Senior Secondary Schools, organised by the Information and Public Relations Department (IPRD), Government of Sikkim, was held at Chintan Bhawan, here today.
The Minister for Education, Sports and Youth Affairs, Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Mr Raju Basnet, who graced the event as the Chief Guest, inaugurated the event by unveiling the historic Time Capsule prototype.
Addressing the event, Minister Mr Raju Basnet praised the finalist schools, stating that their participation was a testament to their talent and hard work. He laid emphasis on participation over competition. Stressing on the role of the students as future torchbearers, he urged them to strive for self-reliance with words of encouragement to develop practical skills, entrepreneurship, and ambitious dreams. He also reiterated the government's commitment to achieving 100% literacy, under the mentorship of the Chief Minister, Mr Prem Singh Tamang. Appreciating the landmark initiatives of Time Capsule and Augmented Reality (AR) mobile games, the Minister applauded and congratulated IPRD for the innovations.
Earlier, Secretary of IPRD, Ms Annapurna Alley welcomed the dignitaries to the grand finale, highlighting the quiz as a celebration of Sikkim's 50 years of statehood and a tribute to its youth. She outlined the department's initiatives: Sikkim Odyssey, KUZU Challenge, and Time Capsule 2025. Expressing these innovatives as bridging tradition and innovation for a dynamic narrative, she stated "It is not just about recording history, it is about gifting the future a sense of who we were and what we aspire to become.”
Technical Presentation on Time Capsule 2025 was presented by Data Analyst of IPRD, Mr Karma Lama. Mr Lama highlighted the objective of archiving contemporary voices and creativity for future generations, the purpose of preserving Sikkim's history and cultural heritage, and enlightened the attendees on the preservation techniques of the time capsule.
Seasoned Quiz masters Mr Diwakar Basnet and Mr Deepak Tamang conducted the finale. The quiz spanned a wide range of topics including general knowledge, Sikkim’s rich culture and heritage, and the remarkable journey of the state over the past five decades. The format featured unique, engaging rounds designed to both challenge and inspire participants.
A total of 112 senior secondary schools from across the state participated in the preliminary round of the Sikkim@50 State-Level Inter-School Quiz Competition. Following the round, six schools—each representing one district—qualified for the final namely:
1. Samdong Senior Secondary School (Gangtok District)
2. Eklavya Model Residential School, Parakha (Pakyong District)
3. Bongten Senior Secondary School (Gyalshing District)
4. Bermiok Tokal Senior Secondary School (Namchi District)
5. Phodong Senior Secondary School (Mangan District)
6. Bariakhop Senior Secondary School (Soreng District)
In the final round, Eklavya Model Residential School, Parakha (Pakyong District), secured the first position. Phodong Senior Secondary School (Mangan District) came second, followed by Bongten Senior Secondary School (Gyalshing District) securing the third place.
Earlier, the event featured technology-based activities such as the Sikkim Odyssey Augmented Reality (AR) mobile quiz game and the KUZU Challenge. These aimed to promote interest in learning and encourage understanding of Sikkim’s cultural identity.
Greendale Senior Secondary School won the Sikkim Odyssey AR mobile quiz game. Delhi Public School won the first and second rounds of the KUZU Challenge, while Enchey Senior Secondary School won the third round. These digital events received support from Kokkivo Clothing, Crafted Fibre, and Aoola’s Creations.
The top teams were awarded trophies, certificates, and gifts. All participating students were recognised for their efforts and enthusiastic involvement in the competition.
The event had the gracious presence of Deputy Mayor GMC, Ms Tshering Palden, Press Secretary to Chief Minister Mr Yougan Tamang, Chairperson IPRD Mr Ashit Rai, and others including entrepreneurs, teachers, students, and IPRD staff.
The programme concluded with a word of thanks proposed by Additional Secretary IPRD, Ms Anita Subba.
