Second Preparatory Meeting for Rankey Mela 2025 Held at DAC Namchi

Second meeting for the upcoming Rankey Mela 2025, scheduled to be held from 16 and 17July, took place at the District Administrative Centre (DAC) Namchi, today.
The meeting was chaired by Satish Chandra Rai, MLA, alongwith HoOs of line departments and organising committee members.
The MLA in his address, urged attendees to ensure cleanliness in the town throughout the event. He requested the police department to monitor and take legal action against those found littering and acknowledged the efforts taken so far in addressing drug trafficking.
He also informed the gathering about making traditional houses representing Nepali, Bhutia, and Lepcha communities during the event.
He further emphasized that the Rankey Mela is expected to attract a larger number of tourists and significantly boost tourism in the Namchi District.
Concluding his address, he called upon all stakeholders to work together to make the event successful.
DC Namchi Ms Anupa Tamling gave a detailed briefing to the concerned departments and committees regarding their respective responsibilities.
She directed departments to coordinate with the organising committee to ensure smooth execution of the event. Safety measures were discussed, including instructions to avoid any incident during the celebration.
She also instructed that child labour must not be engaged in stalls and shops, and that sale of liquor or conduct of games like tambola to underage is strictly prohibited. She mentioned a fixed time frame for the operation of shops to maintain law and order.
Sr SP Namchi Mr Karma Gyamtso Bhutia provided information on the enforcement plan during the event. He explained the types of permissions that may or may not be granted and laid out the schedule and procedures to be followed.
He requested the organising committee to work in coordination with the police department to ensure smooth conduct of the programme.
The meeting also discussed task allocation to various departments and the grooming and beautification of town in preparation for the event.
During the meeting, the official brochure for Rankey Mela 2025 was unveiled by MLA.
At the beginning of the meeting, the MLA, along with DC Namchi, extended heartfelt appreciation to the Heads of Offices from the Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services Department, Cooperative Department, and the Agriculture and Horticulture Department. Their dedicated efforts were recognized for contributing to Namchi District being honored as the highest milk-producing district during Gwala Diwas 2025.
It maybe noted that the traditional stalls for the Mela will be open from July 13 to 17.
