Second Day of Joint Field Visit to Landslide-Affected Areas under Daramdin Constituency concludes

The second and final day of the two days joint field visit by the Sikkim State Disaster Management Authority (SSDMA), in coordination with the Land Revenue & Disaster Management Department (LR&DMD) and the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), concluded today.
The team visited the landslide-affected areas of Okhrey, Ghantidara, Pureytar, and Changbagaon. These locations have experienced varying degrees of landslides, ranging from minor slips to major slides, that have disrupted road connectivity, damaged farmland, and posed ongoing risks to the surrounding environment.
Subsequent visits were made to Bhareng and Ribdi to assess the situation and identify the need for immediate or long-term interventions.
The final stop of the visit was Moonew, where the team conducted a detailed assessment and noted the need for precautionary measures and departmental support.
Throughout the visit, officials from SSDMA and DDMA engaged with local residents, gathered important feedback, offered safety recommendations, and reassured them of the government’s continued support.
Along the course of the visit the team encountered a slide that had happened at midnight in Sombarey which caused minor disruption to the road and posed risk to the adjacent household. The team extended further assistance for its immediate restoration during their visit.
