Second Coordination Meeting Held Ahead of 2nd Aama Samman Diwas in Namchi
Namchi, 01 August (IPR): A second coordination meeting for the upcoming 2nd Aama Samman Diwas, scheduled to be celebrated on 10 August 2026 in Namchi District, was held today at Bhaichung Stadium, Namchi.
The meeting aimed to review the progress of preparations for the 2nd Aama Samman Diwas and strengthen coordination among the concerned departments to ensure the successful organisation of the programme.
Addressing the meeting, Deputy Speaker, Sikkim Legislative Assembly, Ms Raj Kumari Thapa, stated that Aama Samman Diwas is a unique initiative of the Chief Minister, Mr Prem Singh Tamang, dedicated to honouring mothers and is celebrated exclusively in Sikkim. She informed that the observance, introduced in 2025, aims to recognise the invaluable contributions and sacrifices of mothers while promoting their dignity, empowerment, and self-reliance.
She emphasised that the successful celebration of the programme is a collective responsibility and urged all stakeholders to work together to ensure its smooth and meaningful conduct. She also encouraged everyone to spread awareness about the celebration and extend guidance and assistance to every mother participating in the programme.
Lastly, she stated that with the active participation and support of all concerned, the 2nd Aama Samman Diwas would be organised in a smooth, successful and meaningful manner.
Minister for Urban Development and Food & Civil Supplies Departments Mr Bhoj Raj Rai, expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister Mr Prem Singh Tamang for dedicating a special day to honour the mothers of the State through the celebration of Amma Samman Diwas.
He emphasised the importance of unity, stating that everyone is equal and should work together with dedication and coordination for the successful celebration of the programme. He encouraged all concerned to go beyond their assigned responsibilities by extending support wherever needed and contributing wholeheartedly towards making the event a success.
Highlighting the significance of the occasion, he stated that the programme has been specially organised to honour the mothers of the State and urged everyone to ensure that they are treated with care, respect, and comfort.
He also appealed to all participants to maintain cleanliness throughout the venue and its surroundings. He urged everyone to refrain from littering and to adopt responsible waste disposal practices, emphasising that cleanliness is a shared responsibility.
Minister for the Rural Development Department Mr Arun Kumar Upreti, in his address, reviewed the work assigned to the various departments and stressed that each department should carry out its designated responsibilities with sincerity and commitment. He directed the relevant departments to hold internal meetings and develop creative ideas to ensure the event's successful conduct.
He further informed that review meetings would be held in the coming days, during which each department would present updates on the progress of their assigned tasks. Concluding his address, he urged all departments to work in close coordination and contribute collectively towards making the 2nd Aama Samman Diwas a grand success.
Minister for the Ecclesiastical Department, PHE Department, and Water Resources Department, Mr Sonam Lama, acknowledged the initiative of the Chief Minister, Mr Prem Singh Tamang, in conceptualising Aama Samman Diwas.
He noted that the concerned departments had already commenced the assigned preparatory work and urged them to continue discharging their responsibilities with greater dedication and commitment. He further called upon all departments to extend mutual support and maintain close coordination to ensure the smooth and successful conduct of the programme.
Further, he also encouraged everyone to participate in the Lucky Selfie with Aama campaign and urged the gathering to promote the initiative among the public through social media. He concluded by extending his best wishes and congratulations to all those involved in organising the celebration.
MLA of 11 Namchi-Singhithang Constituency, Mr Satish Chandra Rai, informed that preparations for the upcoming 2nd Aama Samman Diwas are in full swing. He stated that following the first coordination meeting, the concerned departments had already been assigned their respective responsibilities and directed to carry out the necessary arrangements for the event.
He further urged all concerned departments to work in close coordination and discharge their assigned responsibilities efficiently to ensure the smooth and successful conduct of the celebration.
It was also informed that, on the occasion of the 2nd Amma Samman Diwas, a 'Lucky Selfie with Aama' contest has been introduced as an initiative of the Chief Minister, Mr Prem Singh Tamang.
The contest will be held from 2 to 6 August 2026, during which participants are required to take a selfie with their Aama (mother) and register by submitting the photograph through the designated online link.
It was further informed that the winners will be selected through a software-based system to ensure a fair and transparent selection process.
The prize distribution ceremony will be held on 10 August 2026 during the celebration of the 2nd Amma Samman Diwas. The prizes include ₹2,00,000 for the first prize, ₹1,50,000 for the second prize, ₹1,00,000 for the third prize, and seven consolation prizes of ₹20,000 each.
The meeting was attended by Ministers, MLAs, Advisors, Chairpersons, Zilla Adhyaksha, Upa-Adhyaksha, Political Secretary to Chief Minister, Additional Political Secretary to Chief Minister, OSDs, Councillors and members of the organising committee.
