Science and Technology for Sustainable Future State Level Exhibition Concluded
Gangtok, November 13 (IPR):
The three-day science exhibition at Deorali Girls Senior Secondary School (DGSSS) came to a close today, showcasing projects centered around Science and Technology for a Sustainable Future, with sub-themes including Food Health and Hygiene, Transport and Communication, Natural Farming, Disaster Management, Mathematical Modeling, Computational Thinking, Waste Management, and Resource Management.
The valedictory programme had the presence of distinguished guests including, Additional Chief Secretary Education Department, Mr R Telang (IAS); Principal Director Education Department, Mr Sonam Denzongpa; Joint Director State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), Dr Shanti Ram Adhikari; and Joint Director SCERT, Mr Basu Dev Adhikari, and faculty and staff members of SCERT, National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) Associate Professor, Dr Sudesh Kumar, Principal of District Institute of Educational Training (DIET) Gangtok, Mr Tshering Wangdi Bhutia, Principal, DGSSS Ms Anita Kaphley, panel of judges- Dr Bikash Sharma, Dr Nagendra Gurung and Professor Jagabandhu Panda, students and escort teachers of participating schools.
Dr Shanti Ram Adhikari delivered the welcome address welcoming the guests, students and teachers in the valedictory programme and highlighting SCERT's ongoing efforts to promote science through regular science exhibitions, dramas and various other events.
The chief guest, Mr R Telang in his address expressed his delight in participating in the exhibition, noting that it showcases new ideas and innovations annually. He emphasized the significance of exploring science and stressed that active participation in such events is more valuable than winning, as it constitutes a vital part of the learning experience.
He encouraged students to pursue improvement and develop strategies for achieving excellence, emphasizing the importance of observation and awareness in scientific learning. He concluded by expressing gratitude to SCERT, participants, students, teachers, and organizers for hosting the event.
Mr Parijit Sutradhar, Coordinator of Rajya Stariya Bal Vaigyanik Pradarshani, then presented a report outlining the upcoming Zonal/National Level Science Exhibition at Eastern India Science Fair in January 2025, where 10 selected schools will represent the state at Birla Industrial and Technological Museum (BITM), Kolkata.
During the event, guide teachers shared their experiences, with Mr Prem Kumar Chettri from Chakung Senior Secondary School and Ms Amrita Kumari Gupta from Puspanjali Vidyalaya Pakyong expressing gratitude for the learning opportunity provided by the exhibition.
Professor Jagatbandhu Panda from College of Agricultural Engineering and Post Harvest Techonolgy (CAEPHT), Ranipool, representing the panel of judges addressed the gathering and was delighted to witness the students' innovative spirit and creativity showcased at the exhibition.
During the latter part of the valedictory program, the exhibition results were announced, with eight government schools and two private schools selected to advance to the zonal level competition.
St Francis School secured first place in the competition, with Pelling Senior Secondary School and Ranka SSS claiming second and third places, respectively. The remaining schools were ranked as follows: Chakung SSS in fourth, Mangal Baria SSS in fifth, PM Shri Yangang SSS in sixth, New Secondary School in seventh, Namchi SSS in eighth, Kaluk SSS in ninth, and North Sikkim Academy in tenth.
The Chief Guest and other guests presented trophies and certificates to the winners in each category, while participating schools received their certificates.
The vote of thanks was then delivered by Mr Basu Dev Adhikari.
