Samvad Under UNNATI 2024 Highlights Investment Opportunities in Sikkim
Gangtok, May 14 (IPR): Samvad, an investors and industry outreach programme under UNNATI 2024 Scheme of the Government of India, was organised today at a local hotel in Gangtok by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, in association with the Commerce and Industries Department, Government of Sikkim.
The programme was attended by Director, DPIIT, GoI, Mr Anindya Bhattacharya, as the chief guest, along with Director, MSME, C&I Department, GoS, Mr M Ravikumar, as the special guest.
Also present were Under Secretary, DPIIT, GoI, Mr Arun Kumar Vishwakarma, Nodal Officer, NE Section, DPIIT, Mr Karampaul Singh, and Special Secretary-cum-Director, C&I Department, GoS, Ms Choden Gyatso, along with senior officials from DPIIT and the C&I Department, GoS, investors, bankers, chartered accountants, entrepreneurs, and industrialists.
In his special address, Director, DPIIT, Mr Bhattacharya, urged all stakeholders to take full advantage of the UNNATI scheme and make the best use of the Samvad platform to clear any doubts and queries related to the scheme and its implementation.
He also expressed gratitude to the Government of Sikkim for its support and cooperation in organising the outreach programme successfully.
He further informed that the registration window for the scheme remains open till September 30, 2026, and encouraged eligible participants to register and avail the benefits under the initiative.
In his keynote address, Director, MSME, Mr Ravikumar, highlighted the Government of India’s extensive outreach efforts under the UNNATI scheme across major cities and states, including Sikkim, to create awareness among entrepreneurs and industrial stakeholders.
He stated that Sikkim holds immense potential for industrial and business ecosystem development owing to its rich natural and human resources, biodiversity, favourable climatic conditions, and growing sectors such as food processing, tourism, handicrafts, pharmaceuticals, and MSMEs.
Describing UNNATI as a comprehensive and beneficial scheme, he informed that it offers capital subsidy, interest subvention, GST-linked incentives, and production-linked benefits, making it highly attractive for entrepreneurs and investors.
He further stated that the Commerce and Industries Department has established dedicated support mechanisms to assist entrepreneurs in registration, project preparation, and availing benefits under the scheme.
He urged entrepreneurs, investors, and youth to take advantage of the opportunities under UNNATI to promote enterprise development, employment generation, and sustainable economic growth in the state while preserving Sikkim’s environment and cultural heritage.
Special Secretary-cum-Director, C&I, GoS, Ms Gyatso, in her presentation, highlighted Sikkim’s industrial growth journey and vast investment potential across sectors such as tourism and hospitality, pharmaceuticals, hydropower, organic farming, food processing, MSMEs, and creative economy.
She informed that the state government aims to attract major investments and generate employment opportunities through investor-friendly policies and initiatives.
She also elaborated on the various fiscal and non-fiscal incentives available under the Sikkim Industrial and Investment Policy and UNNATI scheme, while highlighting the State’s focus on sustainable development, green economy, and ease of doing business.
In his presentation on UNNATI 2024, Nodal Officer, NE Section, DPIIT, Mr Singh highlighted the objectives, incentives, and implementation framework of the scheme aimed at promoting industrialisation and investment across the North Eastern Region.
He elaborated on the various incentives available under the scheme, including capital investment subsidy, interest subvention, and manufacturing and services-linked incentives, while also highlighting the dedicated budget earmarked for Sikkim.
He further stated that the scheme ensures a transparent and fully digital application process with defined timelines for approval and processing. The registration timeline under the scheme has been extended till September 30, 2026, he added.
An open house discussion session was also held during the programme, wherein participants, entrepreneurs, investors, and industrial stakeholders interacted with officials and sought clarifications on various aspects of the UNNATI scheme, investment opportunities, and policy support available in the state.
