Date: 11-Jun-2025
Pakyong, June 11 (IPR):
The sacred festival of Saga Dawa, commemorating the birth, enlightenment, and parinirvana of Lord Buddha, was observed with profound reverence and devotion at Kartok Monastery today.
The celebration was elevated by the gracious presence of MLA Gnathang-Machong, Mrs Pamin Lepcha, and Zilla Adhyaksha, Mrs Lhaden Bhutia, whose participation added significance to the auspicious occasion.
From the early morning hours, devotees from surrounding neighbourhoods and villages gathered at the monastery to take part in the sacred observance.
The day commenced with prayer sessions, butter lamp offerings, and the chanting of holy mantras led by the resident monks, filling the monastery with an atmosphere of tranquillity and devotion.
A solemn religious procession was carried out with great spiritual fervour, beginning from Kartok Monastery and moving through Main Market, Bhanu Turning, New Market, and Nopgaon, before returning via Namcheybong. Monks and devotees walked in unison, carrying sacred scriptures and images of Lord Buddha, accompanied by the rhythmic beat of traditional drums, devotional chants and heartfelt invocations to Lord Buddha for universal peace, compassion, and the well-being of all sentient beings.
In keeping with the spirit of generosity and compassion, devotees offered cooked meals, dry rations, and other offerings to the monastic community. Many observed a vegetarian diet and took personal vows to refrain from negative actions, aligning with the belief that virtuous deeds performed during Saga Dawa bring multiplied blessings.
The celebration at Kartok Monastery, enriched by the collective devotion of the people, transformed the day into a living embodiment of peace, humility and mindful living, truly embodying the timeless essence and wisdom of Lord Buddha.
