STATE DAY MESSAGE OF THE HON’BLE GOVERNOR OF SIKKIM

In his message to the people of Sikkim, Hon’ble Governor has said, -“My heartiest greetings and best wishes to the people of Sikkim on the occasion of 46th State Day. The day reminds us of the vision and purpose of our founding fathers of democracy when they took lead in shaping people’s democratic aspiration and charted the course of journey of Sikkim to become 22nd State of Indian Union. The journey so far has been indeed fulfilling and worthy. The unprecedented growth and transformation that the State has witnessed in the last four and half decades has remained the hallmark of this democratic transition. Today, Sikkim stands tall among the States and is working in synergy with Union Government to chart its journey to greater heights of progress and prosperity.
Numerous national awards and recognition conferred upon Sikkim for its achievements in various sectors along its developmental journey vindicates our developmental strategy which holds greater promise for future.
My Dear Fellow Sikkimese,
Stay Day is also an occasion for introspection as to what we have achieved so far and what remains to be achieved. It gives us the opportunity to look back and take pride in the progress we have made which can always be attributed to the whole hearted participation of Sikkimese people in the developmental process.
Today, we have to foresee the future needs and chart the course of action compatible to the changing dynamics of the economy and societal priorities. It should be an outline that helps the people of Sikkim to constructively and positively contribute to the growth and development of this beautiful Himalayan State simultaneously contributing to the process of Nation building. Sikkim has all along exemplified national unity, integrity and patriotism.
I appeal to the students, youth, women, farmers and all working population of the State to be creative and open to the new opportunities provided by the Government. Presently, the world is changing rapidly and we are witnessing unprecedented challenges and crisis currently in the wake of COVID 19 pandemic which has dented our aspirations and growth forecast. However, it also has brought opportunities in the hindsight which need to be harnessed for achieving our collective goal of self-reliance and self- sufficiency.
On this historic day, let us join hands to work in unison and take Sikkim to the greater heights of progress and prosperity. People’s participation is vital for the progress of any democratic society. Let us work hard to sustain the momentum of development utilising our natural and human capital in more conscious and judicious manner
