SICUN Delegation Calls on Governor of Assam under “Cooperative Samvad”

Pakyong, May 26: A delegation from the Sikkim State Cooperative Union (SICUN), led by Dr. Mangal Jit Rai, Chairman of SICUN and Chief Coordinator of the North East State Cooperative Unions Forum (NESCUF), called on Governor of Assam, Shri Laxman Acharya at Lok Bhawan yesterday under the theme “Cooperative Samvad.”
The delegation included Shri Nabam Tahi Nekil, Chairman of the Arunachal Pradesh State Cooperative Union and Assistant Chief Coordinator of NESCUF; Shri Shyamal Saikia, Assistant Education Officer of the Assam State Cooperative Union; along with staff members of SICUN.
During the meeting, Dr. Rai apprised the Governor of the purpose of the visit and outlined the initiatives and activities being undertaken by SICUN to strengthen and promote the cooperative sector in the region.
Governor Acharya appreciated the efforts of SICUN in advancing the cooperative movement and conveyed his best wishes for its continued growth and expansion across the North Eastern states.
Highlighting the importance of cooperatives, the Governor noted that the movement has deep roots across states and referred to the successful cooperative model of Gujarat as an example of how cooperatives can significantly contribute to socio-economic development and prosperity at both individual and community levels.
He further suggested the preparation of a state-wise priority framework for North Eastern states to identify sector-specific opportunities, challenges, and areas requiring focused intervention.
The Governor also encouraged the delegation to submit detailed suggestions and proposals outlining areas where support and initiatives could be extended to strengthen the cooperative movement in the region, assuring that appropriate measures would be considered upon receipt of the recommendations.
