SDM Rangpo inspects Rangpo Subdivision to ensure safety during the monsoon season.
Pakyong, 20 June (IPR): As per the previously conducted meeting by DC Pakyong at Rangpo TIC regarding the precautions to be taken during the monsoon, the DC has directed the concerned departments to take swift action on this matter at the earliest as it is imperative to ensure the safety and well-being of the community during this crucial period marked by heavy rainfall and potential risks.
In this context, Mr Thendup Lepcha (SCS), SDM Rangpo, along Mr Suren Tamang, MEO Rangpo, conducted spot verification in the Rangpo subdivision to assess the current situation and address any immediate concerns.
During the inspection, SDM Rangpo observed the need for immediate action in various areas to mitigate potential risks and enhance preparedness for the monsoon season.
One of the key directives issued during the inspection was to clear the roadside drains from Rangpo to Chanatar. This essential task aims to ensure smooth transportation and prevent any hindrances that may arise due to blockages or debris during heavy rains. Additionally, the department was instructed to clear the drains from Golitar to Rangpo and maintain the cleanliness to facilitate proper water flow and prevent waterlogging.
Moreover, SDM Rangpo had previously directed NHIDCL to construct a pathway above the drain towards Rangpo PHC, and during the recent inspection, it was noted that the construction work was progressing satisfactorily.
Addressing concerns related to safety, the forest department was urged to take prompt action regarding danger posing trees, particularly along the highway. Identification of such trees and obtaining necessary approvals for their removal are crucial to preventing potential hazards and ensuring road safety for commuters and residents in the area.
The recent heavy rains have exacerbated drainage issues in the Chanatar area, leading to flooding due to inadequate infrastructure. Recognising the urgency of the situation, SDM Rangpo instructed the Roads and Bridges Department to construct proper drain lines and divert the overflow from small creeks originating from higher elevations. These measures aim to reduce the risk of flooding and enhance the resilience of the area during extreme weather events.
Efforts are underway to address the challenges posed by the monsoon, with labourers working diligently to clear the drain below the Rangpo Nagar Panchayat office.
Additionally, SDM Rangpo imparted instructions to Rangpo Municipality to ensure timely garbage collection to prevent it from being scattered by stray animals, thus maintaining environmental cleanlinesss and hygiene.
As a measure to track progress and monitor actions taken, SDM Rangpo has issued a circular directing the concerned departments to submit their action reports with photographs documenting the initiatives undertaken by June 30th.
