Rural Development Department organises workshop on PMAY-G
Gangtok, April 17 (IPR):
A Regional Workshop on Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana–Gramin was organised by Rural Development Department at a local hotel in Gangtok, today.
In his address, Minister for Rural Development Department and Cooperation Department, Mr Arun Kumar Upreti, emphasised the purpose of the workshop is to review the progress of the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana–Gramin and to discuss the way forward. He also reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to ensuring that no eligible beneficiary is left out from the scheme and underscored efforts of the state government in providing proper housing facilities.
He stressed the importance of accurate identification and inspection of deserving beneficiaries and called for collective support towards the state government’s initiatives. Mr Upreti urged everyone to contribute to the vision of Sunaulo, Samriddha, and Samarth Sikkim
In his address, Deputy Director General of Rural Housing, Government of India, Mr Gaya Prasad, provided a detailed overview of the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana–Gramin. He emphasised that the implementation of the scheme depends with the states involvement and highlighted the achievements made so far. He stressed the importance of verifying beneficiary eligibility and addressing grievances related to house construction. Mr Prasad noted that over the past decade, more than 4 crore pucca houses have been built under the scheme to provide secure housing for the under privileged through the scheme.
He further underlined the need to carry out thorough exercises to identify eligible beneficiaries, verify new registrations, review delayed constructions, and eliminate cases where individuals have already availed the scheme. He also appreciated the state government’s initiative, Sikkim Garib Awaas Yojana and expressed hope that the workshop would be productive, encouraging active participation from all states.
Following that, in the technical session, Joint Director (IT), Mr Ajay More, presented an update on the progress of the Awaas+ Survey 2024. He shared state-wise data on surveyor mapping and eKYC, and addressed the key challenges and issues faced during implementation.
This was followed by a presentation from Mr Riaz Udin Ahmed, UIDAI, who spoke on the use of Aadhaar and its seeding under PMAY-G.
Subsequently, Deputy Director, Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Mr Souvik Sikdar, delivered a presentation on the use of BIS certified materials in the construction of PMAY-G houses.
Project Management Unit, MoRD, Ms Pragya Singh, provided a comprehensive overview of the evolution of rural housing schemes, highlighted the salient features of PMAY-G, and introduced the key functions of the Awaas Sakhi Application.
Review of the physical and financial progress of States and UTs was presented by Project Management Unit, MoRD, Ms Hansa Malhotra.
The session also featured a presentation by Mr Sanjay Bhargav from Housing and Urban Development Corporation Limited (HUDCO), followed by a presentation on the Single Nodal Account system, SPARSH, delivered by Ms Rinchen Doma Sherpa, representative from PFMS.
An interactive segment was also held, during which participants discussed various issues and challenges related to the implementation of the scheme.
Likewise, participating states shared their best practices in the implementation of PMAY-G wherein presentations were made by representatives from Telangana, Maharashtra, Assam, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, and Nagaland.
The workshop had the presence of Minister for Rural Development Department and Cooperation Department, Mr Arun Kumar Upreti along with MLA cum Advisor for Rural Development Department, Ms Kala Rai, Deputy Director General Rural Housing Government of India, Mr Gaya Prasad, Deputy Director General IT Government of India, Mr Sanjay Pandey, dignitaries from participating states and other officials.
Earlier, the Welcome Address was presented by Secretary RDD, Ms Norzing Tshering Shenga and the Vote of Thanks was proposed by CEO PMAY-G RDD, Ms Rajani Sharma.
