Rural Development Department clinches semi-final victory, advances to finals

Pakyong, February 24 (IPR): The first semi-final match of the 1st Inter-Department Cricket Tournament, organised by Sikkim Cricket Association (SICA), was played between Rural Development Department and Education Department, at Sikkim Cricket Ground, Rangpo today.
The day also had the presence of Minister for RDD and Cooperation Department, Mr Arun Kumar Upreti; President SICA, Mr Tika Subba; Secretary RDD, Mr Anil Raj Rai, along with officials from various line departments, executive members of SICA, stakeholders and general public.
Rural Development won the match by three wickets after chasing a target of 129 runs. Earlier, the Education Department posted 128 for 5 in their allotted 20 overs, anchored by a 60-run knock from Namgyal Tamang.
Nawdeep Gurung and Upen Bhujel claimed a wicket each, and three crucial run-outs helped Rural Development restrict Education to a manageable total.
In response, Rural Development began racing to 30 within the first three overs. Ganesh Tamang set the tone with a brisk 20 off just 12 balls before his dismissal. However, two quick wickets soon after shifted the momentum and placed pressure on the middle order.
Shard Subba steadied the innings with a composed 25, while Manoj Chettri added a valuable 22 to keep the chase alive. With the match hanging in the balance, Player of the Match Nawdeep Gurung produced a calm and decisive unbeaten 23, guiding his side home with a single off the final ball in a pulsating finish.
For the Education Department, Anurodh Rai, Karma Cheda Bhutia, and Deepesh Tamang picked up two wickets each. Still, their efforts fell just short as Rural Development held their nerve in the closing moments.
With the thrilling last-ball victory, the Rural Development Department advances to the final, to be held on March 1.
The second semi-final match between the Power Department and the Commerce & Industries Department was called off due to rain and has been rescheduled for tomorrow, February 25.
