Roads Minister and MLA Lachen-Mangan visit Naga Ward
Mangan, September 23 (IPR):
Mr NB Dahal, Minister for Roads & Bridges, accompanied by Mr Sandup Lepcha, MLA Lachen-Mangan, also Minister for Social Welfare, Women & Child Development and Printing & Stationery Department, conducted a comprehensive inspection of Naga Ward, Mangan District. The visit aimed at assessing road infrastructure and connectivity challenges in the area.
Also present during the inspection were Mr Erung Tenzing Lepcha, Area MLA Rinchenpong-cum-Advisor for Roads & Bridges,Mr Kado Lepcha Adhakshya, Mr Dorjee Dadul Bhutia Secretary R&B, Mr Hari Shankar Principal Chief Secretary, Mr Bashant Tamang Chief Engineer, Mr Namgay Lepcha Additional Chief Engineer (National Highway),Mr Sonam Dadul Bhutia ACENH, Mr Sukbir Subba Chief Engineer (National Highway),Mr Pintsho P. Bhutia Superintendent Engineer (North/East),Mr Karma Gyurmic Lachenpa Superintendent Engineer (Mangan), Mr Pema Wangchen Namkarpa ADM Mangan, Mr RL Tiwatla OC BRO 107 RCC, Mr H B Thapa RO L&RD, Mr Karma Dorjee Wazerlingpa DPO, Mr Sonam Wongchuk Bhutia Assistant Engineer and Mr Dorjee W. Bhutia, Assistant Engineer (National Highway). Additionally, members of the local Panchayats, TAAS representatives, police officials and the public were in attendance.
The team conducted a thorough survey of the roads in Naga Ward, focusing on the region's connectivity issues. While addressing the public, Minister N B Dahal emphasised the government's commitment to enhancing infrastructure and invited feedback from the community. The Minister also explained the importance of involving a comprehensive team of officials, noting that the participation of various departments and agencies ensures a holistic approach to tackling the area's road and connectivity challenges. He further urged the locals to share suggestions and inputs on improving the ongoing projects.
Mr Nim Tshering Lepcha, former Chairman( Social Welfare) welcomed the dignitaries and presented his insights on the impact of recent natural calamities, including the GLOF and the June 12 cloudburst, which have extensively affected the region. He stressed the need for prompt restoration of road connectivity and called upon the involvement of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) alongside the Roads and Bridges Department. He also submitted a survey report on road conditions and requested further guidance on necessary interventions.
TAAS President Mr Sonam Norgay Lachungpa raised concerns regarding tourist permit issues from Phidang and highlighted the urgency of constructing the Sangkalang Bridge to facilitate smoother connectivity. He emphasised the importance of providing clarity on tourist bookings to enhance the preparedness of the local tourism sector.
Lachung Pipon Mr Pema Wangdi Lachungpa echoed similar concerns about road connectivity, particularly in relation to the district's tourism-dependent economy. He put forth grievances of the people who are facing economic challenges due to the current road conditions and voiced optimism for the swift restoration of roads to stimulate the local economy.
MLA-cum-Minister Mr Sandup Lepcha assured the gathering that all suggestions and concerns would be escalated to the higher authorities. He reiterated that, under the leadership of Chief Minister Mr Prem Singh Tamang, there would be no compromise in the quality of work and efforts would be made to ensure the timely completion of projects for the welfare of the public. He further committed to providing updates on the progress of ongoing road development projects.
The visit concluded with Minister NB Dahal, along with the dignitaries, proceeding to the office of Roads and Bridges in Mangan to participate in the “Swabhav Swachhata, Sanskaar Swachhata” celebration under the Roads and Bridges Department, Mangan District.
