Review Meeting on the Upcoming Sikkim Film Festival 2026 Held

Gangtok, March 7 (IPR):A review meeting on the upcoming Sikkim Film Festival 2026, scheduled to be held from the 19th to the 22nd of March, was held today at the office of the Chairman, Culture, Drama, Music, Dance, and Film Board, in Manan Bhawan. The meeting was chaired by Chairman, Culture, Drama, Music, Dance, and Film Board, Mr Tashi Tshering Bhutia, and Chairman, Information and Public Relations Department, Mr Ashit Rai. The meeting was also attended by regional filmmakers and stakeholders from the local film fraternity.
Founder and CEO, NR GROUP, Mr Nitesh Rohit, briefed the gathering on the overall creative planning and conceptual framework of the festival. He shared details about the proposed lineup of film screenings, panel discussions, workshops, and the invitation of notable filmmakers, industry experts, and distinguished guests from across the country and neighbouring countries such as Nepal and Bhutan. He also highlighted plans for collaborative engagements with the film fraternity to ensure meaningful participation and enhance the festival’s visibility and outreach.
Chairman, Culture, Drama, Music, Dance, and Film Board, Mr Tashi Tshering Bhutia, expressed his gratitude to the State for being able to host the festival. He also expressed appreciation for the visionary leadership of the Chief Minister, Mr Prem Singh Tamang, for promoting the State’s creative economy and providing a platform that allows people to create what they envision and showcase it to wider audiences.
Mr Bhutia stressed the importance of the festival in promoting local talent in the film industry, from aspiring actors to filmmakers. He said the State should not only aim to host events but also focus on becoming a notable destination that provides quality contributions to the industry. He highlighted the festival as an important initiative to strengthen the State’s film culture and provide a dedicated platform for filmmakers, artists, and creative professionals. He also stressed the importance of networking through the event in fostering meaningful dialogue, exchange of ideas, and collaboration among members of the film fraternity.
He further stated that the festival would play a key role in nurturing local filmmaking talent while bringing national attention to the State’s creative potential and cultural richness. He concluded by urging all stakeholders to work collectively to make the festival a success that benefits all stakeholders and the State as a whole.
Chairman, Information and Public Relations Department, Mr Ashit Rai, assured all stakeholders of the department’s full support and cooperation in organising the festival. He emphasised that the department would provide all necessary assistance in coordination, publicity, and outreach to ensure the festival reaches a wider audience across the region and beyond.
Mr Rai further stated that the department would work closely with organisers and filmmakers to highlight the event at every stage and showcase the talent and creativity of Sikkim on a national platform. He expressed confidence that, with the combined efforts of the stakeholders, the festival would not only be successfully organised but also emerge as a key cultural event that strengthens Sikkim’s presence in the film industry.
Today’s meeting was also attended by Assistant Director, Information and Public Relations Department, Ms Avantika Rajalim; filmmakers Mr Samten Bhutia, Mr Pavi Ratna Shakya, Mr Amir Gurung, Mr Deepak Dhakal, Mr Aditya Cintury, and Ms Rushma Rai, along with other stakeholders.
