Review Meeting Held to Assess Restoration and Safety Measures at Barapathing
Pakyong, July 28 (IPR): District Collector Pakyong, Ms Pari Bishnoi, alongside Additional District Collector Pakyong, Mr Pulkit, chaired a meeting at the District Administrative Centre, Pakyong today, to review the observations and inputs received regarding the Barapathing–Rongli road stretch.
The meeting also focused on evaluating the extent of the damage caused in the region, discussing the findings of the site inspections and deliberating on the necessary measures for the restoration of the affected road stretch.
During the meeting, the District Collector directed the concerned departments to provide the original Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the proposed bridge at the Barapathing road stretch and sought details on the technical and geological assessments carried out in the affected area and instructed the concerned departments to submit comprehensive technical reports at the earliest.
The team reviewed the observations made during the joint inspection conducted on July 23 of the collapse of the Barapathing Bridge and the adjoining landslide-affected stretch. Deliberations were focused on ongoing road restoration works, slope protection measures, retaining wall construction, debris clearance, drainage management and long-term mitigation strategies to safeguard the vulnerable stretch.
With regard to debris disposal, DFO(T) informed on the proposed dumping sites, to which a detailed report of the identified dumping locations and current status of the location with debris disposal was requested to be submitted. Further, they also reviewed concerns regarding the unauthorised debris dumping in the area.
During the meeting, officials from NHIDCL and the GI Hydro Project presented their inputs on various issues concerning the affected area and the ongoing restoration efforts.
Emphasising disaster preparedness, DC Pakyong instructed all concerned departments to strengthen coordination and develop long-term measures for improvement and protection of public infrastructure.
She also stressed that no resident and students should face hardship due to delays in coordinated action and urged all stakeholders to work collectively towards ensuring connectivity and early restoration.
The District Collector informed that the Geological and Slope Stability Assessment Report is being prepared by the Mines & Geology Department and stated that further decisions would be taken upon receipt of the report and after due technical evaluation.
