Rescue and relief operations continues at the affected areas of Thek Village under Pakyong District
Pakyong, 14 June (IPR): To assess the recently devastated areas of Thek village at Parakha block, affected by heavy rainfall and mudflows around, a collaborative inspection was carried out today under the supervision of Mrs Laden Lhamu Bhutia, Zilla Adhakshya, and Mr Tashi Chophel, DC Pakyong along with a team of officials from departments.
During the visit, the team surveyed the extent of damages caused by the floodwater, assessing the impact on homes, infrastructure, and the overall landscape. The team also paid a visit to the relief camp situated at Latuk Primary School, where displaced families have found temporary shelter and support amidst the chaos and loss.
The disruption of three bridges spanning the Maltini River has left Thek Village residents isolated, without essential services and assistance.
The erosion along the riverbanks has altered the river's course significantly, posing imminent threats to the surrounding areas and exacerbating the challenges faced by the affected population.
The immediate need for the restoration and reinforcement of vital infrastructure is evident in order to ensure the safety and well-being of the community.
The team engaged in conversation with the impacted families and acknowledged their grievances and concerns, further ensuring that full assistance would be provided to reestablish their lives.
Understanding the emotional and practical challenges they are facing, the authorities have ensured full support in the recovery process, acknowledging the long road ahead for those affected by the calamity.
Adhering to the protocols outlined by the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF), the families impacted by the disaster were provided with ex gratia payments as immediate relief for damages to their homes and livestock.
The joint team involved officials, including Mr Dak Man Subba, SDM Pakyong, Mr Sonam Pintsho Bhutia, DFO Forest and Environment Department, Mr Bibek Niroula, DPO Pakyong, as well as representatives from the Land Revenue & Disaster Management Department and Zilla Panchayats.
