Renovated Sales Emporium Inagurated at DHH Zero Point

The newly renovated Sales Emporium, located at the premises of the Directorate of Handicrafts and Handloom (DHH) at Zero Point, was inaugurated today by the Minister of Commerce & Industries and Tourism & Civil Aviation Departments, Mr Tshering Thendup Bhutia.
The emporium, operated under the Sikkim Handloom and Handicrafts Development Corporation Limited (SHHDC), provides a vital marketing platform for local artisans, promoting Sikkim’s unique handicrafts and handloom products.
The Minister, who is also the Chairman of SHHDC, was joined by Secretary, Commerce and Industries Department cum Managing Director SHHDC , Ms Karma D Youtso; Secretary Cooperation Department, Ms Gloria Namchu, ; Director DHH cum CEO SHHDC, Mr Tshering Tobgay Bhutia; Director MSME, Mr Ravi Kumar; Director Finance (FCD), Mr Mahendra Pradhan, along with all the SHHDC board members, all the officers, and staff of DHH.
Speaking to the media, Minister Mr Tshering Thendup Bhutia, described the renovated Sales Emporium as a more systematic and organised version of its former self, designed to enhance visitors' experiences and improve accessibility for artisans. He noted that the emporium would serve as an important platform for showcasing Sikkim’s rich artisanal heritage, creating new economic opportunities for local artisans, and promoting tourism in the region.
Emphasising the importance of organised management in boosting sales, the Minister expressed confidence that the revamped emporium would help artisans effectively market their skills and sell their products. He lauded the continuous efforts of the DHH in preserving and promoting Sikkim’s unique handicrafts and traditional handloom products, while highlighting the sector’s significant potential to contribute to the state's economic growth and address unemployment.
Touching on the Chief Minister's vision of "One Family, One Entrepreneur," the Minister assured that efforts to develop this sector would continue, with a strong commitment to preserving Sikkim’s unique identity. He concluded by stating that the emporium would not only provide economic opportunities for artisans but also offer visitors an authentic experience and promote Sikkim’s heritage in a modern way.
Director DHH cum CEO SHHDC, Mr Tshering Tobgay Bhutia, shared insights on streamlining and strengthening SHHDC’s role as a marketing platform and underscored its crucial importance in promoting Sikkim’s artisans. He emphasised that the corporation’s efforts are not only focused on providing a space for showcasing local crafts but also on boosting the income of artisans by expanding market reach and creating sustainable opportunities.
He noted that later today, a board meeting of SHHDC would convene to discuss key matters such as finances, grants, transportation and other critical issues. He highlighted this as the first physical gathering of the board since the establishment of SHHDC, adding that this meeting would provide an opportunity to address pressing issues and future growth strategies in a collaborative setting.
The Minister took a tour of the newly revamped facility, which showcased a variety of locally crafted items, including traditional handloom fabrics, intricate woodwork, and handmade souvenirs available for purchase.
During the visit, the Minister was also introduced to the "Traditional Office Concept Room," an innovative initiative by the DHH which aims to introduce traditional handicrafts into government offices, particularly in secretariat and higher offices, with the goal of boosting artisans' income and promoting Sikkim's cultural heritage in professional spaces.
