Ranji Trophy 2024-25

The Ranji Trophy match for the 2024-2025 season, featuring the Sikkim Cricket Association and the Mizoram Cricket Association, was played today at the Sikkim Cricket Ground in Rangpo.
The Ranji Trophy match, which commenced on October 12, is a premier domestic first-class cricket competition played in India and features 38 teams across elite (32) and plate (6) divisions.
The Sikkim team successfully defended their total of 297 runs to secure a victory.
They managed to dismiss the Mizoram team for just 160 runs on the final day of the four-day game. After winning the toss, Mizoram won the toss, allowing Sikkim to bat. Sikkim managed to score 191 runs in 70 overs during their first innings. Nilesh Lamichaney stood out as the top scorer, contributing 50 runs to the team's total.
During the match, Sikkim effectively restricted Mizoram to 163 runs, thus securing a vital first-inning lead of 28 runs. Agni Chopra and KC Cariappa were the standout performers for Mizoram, each contributing 51 runs.
Among the Sikkim bowlers, medium pacers Palzor Tamang and Bhim Luitel excelled, with Palzor claiming four wickets for 32 runs and Bhim securing three for 26.
In their second inning, Sikkim demonstrated notable improvement in their batting, amassing a total of 269 runs, which established a lead of 297 runs.
Parth P narrowly missed his first century, falling short by just three runs, while Ashish Thapa, Anwesh Karan Sharma, and captain Lee Yong Lepcha made significant contributions to the overall score. KC Cariappa achieved his second five-wicket haul of the match, finishing with a total of 12 wickets.
On the third day of the match, the Sikkim bowlers commenced their pursuit of the ten wickets required for victory, making a formidable start by dismissing seven Mizoram batsmen, as Mizoram managed only 70 runs.
Parth was named the player of the match for his contribution of 97 runs in the second inning, which was pivotal for Sikkim in setting a challenging target.
The Plate Group comprises six teams: Sikkim, Mizoram, Goa, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, and Manipur. This match marks the first of five fixtures that Sikkim will play in the Plate Group division of the Ranji Trophy.
Sikkim's next encounter will be against Goa in another home match scheduled for October 18 to 21, followed by three away matches against Arunachal Pradesh (October 26-29), Nagaland (November 6-9), and Manipur (November 13-16).
